June 16, 1993 RAINY
Today they adopted Tommy. He said he would always be with me, but he lied. I'm ten years old, and already I know never to trust others. This diary was left by Tommy as a parting gift. He left a note along with it, I will copy it here so I never forget his words, with them I leave my childhood.
"Happy Birthday.
Esmeralda, I hope you have enjoyed your birthday today. My adoption was finalized yesterday, and I will most likely leave before you open your eyes. This morning I decided to write this note instead of saying good bye face to face. Good Bye Esme. Happy Birthday.
-Thomas"
Now I am going to grow up. No one will hurt me like he did ever again.
