"Nicole, respect your dad, please," says mum, clearly tired of this argument.

"No mum, why should I? He didn't respect us, so why should we respect him?" I shout.

"Nicole! That's enough!" shouts Dad. "You will be moving to America with your mum and that's final. What happened between me and her is none of your business. Now, go and pack your bags."

"None of my business, huh? I'm your daughter, I think that makes it my business."

"Nicole. Go. Pack. Your. Bags," he says slowly, trying to make sure it sinks into my head.

"No, dad! You disrespected this family and that is not ok! How could you?" I shout. "I'm going for a run," I mumble, storming out the front door and running off towards the woods.

How could he be so selfish?

I sprint up the dirt track as fast as I can to try and burn off some of my anger before deciding that I need to take a break, so I slow down to a fast walk and take my phone out my pocket in order to call my best friend, Sarah. She picks up after three rings.

"Hey, Nicole." She answers sounding a little out of breath. "What's up?"

"My dad, that's what's up," I state.

"Uh-oh," she pauses. "What's happened now?"

"My parents are getting a divorce."

"Oh, I'm so sorry Nicole," She says sadly.

"No, that's not what I'm upset about," I say. "They're making me move to America with my mum."

"That's cool though, right? I would love to live in America," she says trying to make me feel better.

"Yeah, it's cool, but what about you and Jason," I say referring to my boyfriend. "Can we meet up to talk?"

"Um, I'm actually with someone at the moment, maybe later yeah?" She asks.

"Yeah, ok."

"Bye," she says quickly before hanging up the phone.

"Bye," I whisper as I hear the line go dead. I shake my head and dial Jason's number, hoping that maybe we can meet up instead.

"Hello," I hear him say from the other end of the line.

"Hey, Jason can w--"

"Just kidding, please leave a message and I will try to call you back as soon as possible, that is unless I don't want to talk to you, " I hear the beep go signaling that I can now leave a message, so I do.

"Jason, please call me back as soon as you get this. I need to talk to you, " I say before quickly hanging up feeling a little irritated.

Why is everyone always so busy?

I jog back down the dirt track and make my way over to the diner in the village so that I can grab a coffee. Once I get to the diner I walk over to the counter where a girl with brown hair looks up from cleaning the red counter-top.

"Hi! What can I get you?" She asks cheerfully.

"Just a coffee please."

"Sure, Milk or sugar?" she asks.

"Oh, just black please," I say.

"Ok, let me just go make that for you," she says before turning around to the coffee machines.

"Thank you," I say as I turn around too and lean my back against the counter, my eyes scanning everyone in the diner.

I stop on a cute couple passionately making out. You know when you see something gross, but you can't stop looking?

Yep.

It's one of those moments. I look away for a split second before my eyes widen in realization. Is that Jason and Sarah making out? I look back at the couple and gasp, turning around quickly so that they don't see me. What the hell are they doing together?

The waitress hands me a takeaway coffee cup and smiles, "that's two pounds fifty please."

I glare at her rudely as tears start to sting my eyes and slide a five-pound note across the counter, "Keep it," I mumble sadly as I storm out the diner.

I storm down the road towards my house as tears start trickling down my cheeks.

Opening the front door of my house I quickly run up the stairs and make my way to my room.

"Nicole?" my mum asks as I run up the stairs. "What's wrong honey?"

"Nothing, I'm fine," I mumble as I close my bedroom door and crash on my bed, crying. I can't believe Jason is cheating on me with my best friend. Well... I say best friend.

Maybe this move to America has come in perfect timing. I think it's time for a fresh start.

Note to self: life isn't always about trying to fix something that has broken, but instead starting over and making something even better.
