6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

Many, many years ago...

"Ok, I'll count to 10 now, 1,2,3...." her sister cheered, but the little girl was too busy absorbing the golden tinges of sunlight cascading onto her ebony skin. With each step the grass tickled her bare legs, a grin expanding her cheeks as her footsteps dissolved into the lush fields.

But suddenly a bolt shuddered her heart. Drilling ice into the pores of her bones as she winced at her thumping chest drowning out her hearing.

With sweat trickling from her clammy hands scrunching up her white sundress, bright red glinted in the corner of her eyes.

Slowly she tilted her head.

Scattered sun rays sprinkled onto a crimson rose. Drawing nearer it felt like the thick strands of grass were caving in on her. Shrouding down on her as they morphed into darker shades of green. Every trace of her surroundings burrowing into darkness as she crouched down beside the flower.

Cherry scents wafted into her nose causing her mouth to water up and she licked her lips inching forward to its petals.Immediately heat surged into her pulse, tunnelling her shaky gaze into thuds of warmth.

Yet with all this a cold feeling slit into her body slithering down into the pit of her stomach.

She was confused?

The flower drew her in. Calling her with a soft hum. She craved its touch. But at the same time, she feared it. There was just a part of it that made her feel like her heart had blackened.

Once her hands nestled onto the rose she yelped at the pain stinging her fingers. She glanced down to see blood swamped onto her palms also tinting the mushed petals embedded into them.

But there were no thorns so how could that be?

Suddenly her eyes cracked open to see a memory from the rose.

In her mind she saw a girl inching closer to the same rose.

But this girl was in a different place.

A different realm.

Everything was dark in her mind except for the moonlight dust shimmering down on the rose and pine green trees rustling softly. A soft glow emmantled around the girl's body as she slowly stretched her hand out to meet the rose. The girl was weary about her decision, her pulse throbbed with lust to near it but another part of her felt her blood run cold crippling her hand away.

But a voice dripping in honey pushed the girl to touch the rose and with a swift nod, she dipped her fingertips onto the petal.

Shocks of electricity bolted up her arm and fresh cuts of blood stung her palms. Out of anger and pain she ripped the rose out of the soil. Violent trembles shook the place, prying open the soil as it ripped into a whirlwind opening the ground. Wind bashed against the trees as the whirlwind tried to suck everything into it.

The blood tangled the girl's hands with a strange bond that she just couldn't explain.

"Now we are one" the sultry voice giggled as the grip of the blood tightened around the girl.

The crimson liquid melted in the girl's hands and her head banged on the grass with shears of pain hammering down on it. As her companion a flying fluffball neared to the girl a tint of blood caught it making it vanish. Leaving behind only hints of his blue fluff, shredded like a snake. A trail of the blood seeped onto her other arm. Leaking onto the grass as it streamed into the opening of the ground.

Leading down to earth.

Distant screams shouted, "She opened the barrier and the seal has been released" and slowly the memory began to fade away.

A sudden tap on the girl's shoulder broke her mind from the foreign trance she was once in.

"Woah, what happened to your hands Scarlette, they're bleeding" her older sister gasped. She helped Scarlette get up off the ground, dusting herself off.

"I-It was the flower, it pricked me" Scarlette croaked, feeling a lump clog up in the back of her throat as her eyes watered up.

"What flower? There's nothing here but grass" her sisters face scrunched up as her eyes darted around Scarlette.

"N-No there was a flower, right here, I saw it with my own two eyes, I promise you Angel, it was right here I-

"C'mon we don't have for your games, mother said the Grandeur Knights are still on the lookout for us and one of father's men tipped him off that their heading this way, I'll have to get you cleaned up fast, so we can leave before were caught" Scarlette's sister Angel snatched onto her hand running off with her into the swamps of thick grass.
