Chapter Forty-Seven

And so they did, despite the recurring thought within Bettys mind telling her to keep Cheryl out of this, after all now she was family. Betty continued to try and ignore the fact her boyfriend was a Serpent, her heart aching every time he mentioned Toni's name and how much fun that life was. She knew he loved her, but the dangerous thought that she wasn't enough stayed continuously present.

She even met Toni once, she wasn't impressed with Betty it was clear at first. But as time moved on, Betty realised she was lovely- which made it harder to hate her. That was until she wrapped her arm around Jughead, that gave her a reason.

Jughead shook her off jokingly and they all laughed about it, but the anger, pain, embarrassment Betty felt in that moment never left her. From that point on Toni was a starling angel to Betty, but she was never full convinced of her motives.

Betty received less than two notes from her anonymous friends telling her that the time will come when they would meet. She had began to lose hope that she would ever meet her missing sibling.

Not surprisingly, Betty and Jughead once again snook into the lair that was Sheriff Keller's office, only to find out that their whole investigation on Cheryl was for not. For Penelope's killer was not of Blossom DNA.

They had to start from nothing, again. Jughead couldn't help feel if it was worthless. Was it really worth spending another month all to lead to nothing.

Betty had yet to mention to her mother the encounter with Joaquin, and the fact they may share different fathers. She never intended to either, considering they had finally reached a stand still in their ongoing mother- daughter feud. But with the investigation going no where , she needed answers.

With Jughead lurking in the background, her own form of support, she stood looking down at her mother. Who had just glanced up from her magazine her glasses at the tip of nose.

"Mom... I know about Joaquin." She confessed her hand twirling loops.

"Who?" She asked. Unfazed by its entirety.

"Your son..."

"I don't have a son.."

"Fine. One of the twins you gave birth to before me and Polly."

Her face turned cold hard, emotionless. "I thought we agreed when you found that hard drive to put this behind us, Betty Cooper." She said sternly using Bettys full name.

"They weren't Dads, were they?" Betty asked flatly, ignoring her mothers questions and coming out with what was needed to be said.

She looked down.

"Mom?" Her voice tender.

"No ... no they weren't." She dropped her magazine, her gaze fixed to the floor.

"The who was?"

Alice took a deep breath. "Hiram Lodge."

"He gets around." Jughead remarked , earning a glare from his girl friend. He held his hands up in response.

Vacant tears streamed from Alice's tear ducts.

"Are you okay? I'm sorry asked." Betty said sadly, not used to seeing her mother so vulnerable.

"Yeah I just need a little time alone."

Betty sighed and turned for the door, Jughead following. That was until her mothers cold hand gripped her wrist.

"But Betty stay away from Joaquin, he was a Serpent."

"So? Not all Serpents are bad." He mind drifted to Jughead.
