what's with coffee and coffee shops

Apparently I never got the memo.

COFFEE SHOPS AND CAFÉS ARE THE PLACES TO BE IF YER LOOKING FOR LOVE, according to every teen fiction/romance written ever.

I swear, every novel I've read, every novel I've read ever, at least has ONE mention of the word COFFEE.

Legit!

It's like people are swimming in this stuff

It's like people are swimming in this stuff.

And I'm just wondering.

Am I the only one who just doesn't really care about coffee?

People are just crazy for their caffeine first thing in the morning.

And I'm just like: where my hot chocolate at?

I've tried coffee before (black and dark, zero sugar since that's how most people in my family have theirs) and I was just like.

I've tried it with sugar too, of course, and then I was like

The deal with cafes in fiction, especially romantic, is that theres always:

- cute barista

- poor college/high school MC struggling to make ends meet working at indie coffee shop

- student going to coffee shop or diner to be alone or read or something and meets hot dude/girl as a result of.

(Seriously what happened to Starbucks is that too annoyingly mainstream for your already annoyingly mainstream novel?)

- hot guy that goes to coffee shop MC goes to or works at or both.

- friend group always meeting up to have coffee

- coffee

- coffee

- coffee

Now this is not aimed to any of those people who like coffee, and can't walk two metres from their house much less start their day without it.

This is about the over romanticisation surrounding coffee and cafes.

Like dude.

Dude.

Cafes aren't the only places available for part time jobs. And even then remember this?

 And even then remember this?

I've just gotten tired of seeing coffee and cafes EVERYWHERE in romance novels.

Like, here's an example.

I dare you, yes you, to go through at least 3-5 teen fiction, chick lit, romance novels in your library right now (and if you don't read that stuff just stop by the HOT section of each respective genre) and tell me you don't even see ONE mention of COFFEE or CAFE in it.

And we all know none of you are going to do that, since you most likely can't be arsed to until you do and force the conclusion into one reality through your investigation, I'm right.

IM TIRED.
