WHAT WAS TO blame for overlooking such a crucial detail? His tunneled vision focused on Kiera or his sympathy for Aiden? Regardless, it was Knowles' fault. It seemed like maturity never really came with age. If it did, he would've set aside his emotions and found out that the woman was shot rather than killed in a car accident much sooner.

Not only did this give him a wake up call on his approach to the investigation, it made him realize that everyone was a suspect. Kiera may have been the most suspicious, but there was more to what met the eye in East Vienna.

"Detective Knowles?" Aiden's voice made its way to Knowles' center of attention.

He closed the file and looked the young man directly in the eye. "I need a list of everyone who could be a suspect. The victim's friends, coworkers, family members, and anyone else who might have a reason to kill her."

Before Knowles could remember any other demands to make, Aiden spoke loud and clear, "I already did that. They're all in the hallway."

It seemed the detective had underestimated Aiden's willpower. Seeking justice always could make people do the impeccable.

"Whom have you called?" Curiosity was always a requirement on the job, but this piqued his interest. He either needed to raise his own game or Aiden's paycheck.

Aiden motioned Knowles to follow him while every fiber of his being vibrated with anticipation. At least there was a path towards success. There was just the pressure of him making the right choices and pinpointing the odd behavior right on the bullseye or else the only judge of murder would be fate.

When they walked out into the hallway, Knowles finally took in the sight of the crowded police station. The receptionist, Martha Sawyer, was scrambling between files while holding the telephone between the crook of her neck and shoulder. Aiden quietly shut the door behind him, so no one was aware of his presence yet. They all had their heads in the clouds of anxiety.

Aiden came up to him, whispering and subtly pointing at the people in the room. Knowles wanted to question how he rendered the scene before him, but was left in awe by how many different people he had to talk to first.

The first person he pointed to was Genevieve's coworker, who was probably going to get a bent neck and twisted thumbs if she texted on her phone any longer. Beside her was Ms. Washington, who was the closest thing to being a friend to Kiera besides Aiden. Knowles suspected Aiden wasn't willing to talk about Kiera, so he must've called whomever was next in line for Kiera's relations. She had her elbows on her thighs and was covering up her face in distress.

They were the only ones to be quiet compared to everyone else.

A neighbor of Genevieve's was wiping tears from her eyes with the back of her hand while Noah Garcia, her boyfriend and also the person who was dating Genevieve right before she died, was mumbling consoling phrases into her ear and stroking her hair gently.
