The wind picked up quickly, knocking over trash cans and creating tornados of dust, blowing it toward my way. Atmosphere kept getting colder and colder to the point where I regretted coming out there. Tree limbs hit the freshly cut grass and the rain made it all seem like a messy devastation.

I liked it. No one was there to see me. To be honest, who would want to see me anyway.

Walking along the running track, my eyes wandered until it was caught on a certain playground.

Small and structured for little children. Beautiful if you were 5-8. But I had a different vision of it. That vision consisted of two young birds, happy with each other's company. One, in particular, hoping for a relationship to begin after her first kiss was conceived.

It felt like a long time. No tears here. Only regret.

Ignoring whatever memories came flushing in my brain, I continued forward. The rain became worse and I needed somewhere nice and dry for the next couple of minutes.

Racing against the storm. Not a clever idea. Falling on sticks and concrete made a different mix of bruising in a while. Especially around the wrists. As I got up from the puddle of salty water, I heard a smack hit the ground.

I glanced over my shoulder. Something black was inches away from where I stood.

That wasn't there before, I thought to myself as I walked toward it.

It was surrounded by water but didn't look affected. What mesmerized me the most was the way it looked. The thin covering wasn't the problem but the title.

"Death Note," I whispered to myself. "What is a Death Note?"

The rain wasn't dying down. My curiosity had to wait. Until then, I was gonna need shelter. Forecasts claimed the rain wouldn't end until later in the week.

Without much thought, I scooped up the notebook and headed off in the direction of an abandoned warehouse a few yards away.
