1990

Lucius Malfoy turned the orb in his hands, it was flashing red at the moment. He gazed into a fetus-like Voldemort, twitching not to show a reaction at his disgusting sight.

"The moment has come, my Lord."

"Make sure you don't screw it up. Remember, we've been waiting for 10 years for this."

-Ava Wilkins-

Orphanage wasn't the best place to spend your childhood but I guess it could be much worse. At least we had caring sisters here, they were people beyond hired employees. They didn't see this as a job and did it with such devotion that we were actually like a genuine family.

Although we were so close, I was looking forward to getting adopted because I knew that being able to have a normal family one day was quite possible. My only concern was that, as I got older, the chances someone was going to take me got slimmer.

My tenth birthday was a short while ago and we were playing in a park close to orphanage, with one of my presents: a basketball ball. It was a really sunny day and I got sweaty after half an hour of playing.

"You guys can continue," I breathed. "I'll rest a little."

I sat on a bench, watching them play. Suddenly, I flinched with a tap on my shoulder.

"Hey there, Ava," saluted the man with platinum hair. I immediately stood up, who was this guy and how did he know my name?

"Don't be scared, I came with good news. I intend to be your father."

I bawled my eyes out, he left me speechless. The moment I have been waiting all this time had come so spontaneously.

"Come, let's go back to there with your friends, so I can sign the final papers and take you to your new home."

I didn't know what was wrong with me. I couldn't feel anything, I didn't want to jump in the air or something.

"Okay," I whispered shyly. "Olivia, Jade, Michael, we need to return home!"

They came next to me, we were all exchanging glances, it was as if we were reply to each other with telepathy. Because one thing was clear, everyone sensed something wrong.

"This is my new father," my voice lacked excitement.

They all oh 'ed at the same time.

"Hello Sir," said Michael, his hand ready for a handshake. My soon-to-be father shook it, his silky hair swinging down his shoulders.

"Let's go now."

We had a short walk to orphanage in silence. It appeared that my new father was a rather strict, serious man.

A very jolly Mrs Humphry opened the door to us.

"Congratulations darling," she said as she gave me a warm embrace. "Come on Mr Malfoy, you still have some signing to do."

They went to the other room so I had some time to talk with friends.

"He was a bit strange, wasn't he? Not the most fun type of dad, I guess," commented Olivia.

"Well, I am happy for Ava, she found a new home. Besides, it's not really the time to talk about that when the man is in the room next to us," resisted Michael. He had always admired men of high rank and Mr Malfoy certainly appeared like one.

A few minutes later, both adults came out. After hugging all my friends and Mrs Humphry, it was time to leave. When the door was opened, there was no sight of a car. Weird, I thought. How come I haven't seen him before if he lived closed to here?
