Your POV:
Dan rang the doorbell, and you stood beside him patiently. He had been acting strange ever since you'd gotten out of school. You watched him as he grinded his teeth together. Something was definitely going on.
Phil opened the door, and you noticed he was wearing a bow tie.
"Hello Y/N, Hello Dan," he said warmly turning to the both of you.
He walked you both inside and had you sit down in the living room.
"Just a moment please," he said as he walked out of the room.
"Hey Dan?"
"Hm?" he said as if he found that there was nothing odd or different going on at all.
"What's going on?" you asked.
"You'll find out soon enough," he said with a smirk.
You felt puzzled, and you really wanted to know where Phil had gone. Just as you thought this, he walked back into the living room.
Dan's POV:
"Follow me," Phil said as he guided us both down into the basement of all places.
Really Phil? The basement? Whatever, it doesn't matter, I just hope Y/N likes it.
When we stepped inside. Phil had truly outdone himself. The room was dimly lit by white Christmas lights and a single candle at a table for two. It looked nice and elegant. I wasn't expecting a basement to have such a nice atmosphere. He sat us both down at the table, and I smiled at her awkwardly.
"What would you like to drink?" Phil asked.
"Oh I- I'll just have a water," I answered.
Your POV:
The way he stutters is so cute. I always tend to freak out when I'm at a restraunt, it's my turn to tell the waiter what I'd like, and I haven't even rehearsed it in my head twenty times first. I guess Phil caught him off guard.
"And you miss?" he said turning to you.
"I'll just have a water too."
Phil looked at you both with a smile and said,"Alright, I'll be back with both of your drinks."
He walked off, and you and Dan looked around awkwardly.
"So," you said.
"So," he repeated.
There was an awkward silence for a few seconds, but you broke it.
"It was really nice of Phil to put all of this together for us."
"Wasn't it though? We should do something nice for him late-"
Phil interrupted, clearing his throat. You hadn't even heard him walk in. He smiled at you.
"Here's your water," he said kindly,"and here here is yours."
He set them down in front of us, and as he gave Dan his, he gave him the evil eye.
"For dinner, I'll be surprising you with our special," Phil said to the both of you, and he walked back up to the kitchen.
"So what was that all about?" you asked him.
"He just doesn't want anything in return for all of this," Dan answered,"but I still want to do something nice for him."
"Awe, well that's sweet," you added.
"Yeah, I guess."
He shrugged and took a sip of his water. You could tell he was trying to act natural, preparing for whatever he was going to tell you next.
"I just found out that prom is coming up," he began,"and my family really wants me to go."
He fidgeted around with his hands again.
"I know it's boring and cliche, but I know if you come with me it wouldn't be so bad,"he continued," I know promposals have supposedly become this big important thing but-"
"Dan I don't care about any of that, I'd love being anywhere, anytime, as long as I'm with you," you said, interrupting him.
You got out of your seat and kissed, wrapping your arms around his neck. You both heard Phil's footsteps coming down the stairs slowly, and you hurried back to your seat. Dan blushed, and Phil came around with PB&Js (sorry if your favorite food was PB&J or something else that requires little to no cooking experience, just go with it).
"I'm not gonna lie, I tried to make Y/F/F,"he confessed,"but I couldn't. So, here is your PB&J."
"Oh, it's alright Phil, you didn't have to try to make that for me," you said to him.
"By the way, thanks for all of this," you added,"It's amazing."
"It truly is."
He smiled at the both of you.
Once you both finished your food, and you decided to go upstairs and pack to go home. You couldn't risk your mom discovering you had been over here when she got back.
"Is that everything?" Dan asked as he helped you gather the last of your things.
"Yep," you replied.
"Alright, text me when you get home, so that I know you're safe," he said looking at your phone as if he were mentally checking it off.
He kissed you goodbye and you walked home by yourself. However, when you got home, you got a terrible surprise.
Your mother stood waiting for you in the driveway.
