Freshmen Year #1

High school was the four year break I needed from middle school hell. Finding out my father was cheating 7th grade summer, feeling alone, and trying to keep my family together but failing. Middle school was a blur I was glad to be rid of.

But of course it never seemed like luck was on my side and freshmen orientation day was canceled due to renovations in the school still happening. I mean we would still tour the school during first period on the first day, but still. And there was the fact none of my friends had any classes with me. If anything, it was more confirmation luck never seemed to like me.

But none of that mattered now. The building was right in front of me. The building my brother and sister went to every morning and graduated from was in front of me. No longer would I just have to watch them go in, but I could go and be a student there. The only thing that could make this better was having a sibling to share this with, but I'd go through the next 4 years without them.

North high school was a very simple building to say. It had the typical bricks, but the new renovations added somethings. The front had a huge modern window looking into the aviation class. The back was the same, where I was. Same green poles holding up a small roof over the door to the auditorium.

I rushed up the steeps and through the door. The inside was simple. Curvy blue tiles for the wall and white tiles for the floors. There were 5 tables spaced out before the doors that led to the auditorium. Each one had a sign attached. ALPHA, BETA, DELTA, GAMMA, and KAPPA. Every student had a student based on their last name and I was in GAMMA.

A blond women, who looked about 40, sat behind the table and smiled up at me. "Hi, what's your name?" Her voice was nice and calm. "Michael Meredith," I responded. I didn't like talking through, my voice was so high pitched and I always sounded shy and nervous. He looked down at a page, checked my name off, and gave me a schedule and introduction paper. "You can go take a seat in the auditorium now."

I took the papers from her and walked between the GAMMA and KAPPA tables. I took a breathe and opened the auditorium doors. I quickly found a seat in the back to the right side alone. It wouldn't be long though, my friends and I decided to sit together today before the tour. None of them seemed to be here, in fact not many students were here. I pulled out my phone and saw Alanna texted the group chat saying she got a late start, but would be here soon. I responded and told her not to worry.

20 minutes later all his friends, even unexpected ones, had come. Billy, Alanna, Sebastian, Simon, and some others I wasn't close to. We all were catching up and talking about our summers, but 5 minutes later the principle was on the stage. She had a microphone in one hand and started to talk. This was it. The beginning of something great, I hope. But like I said. Luck was never on my side.
