“How did he cut you Jay?” I asked staring at him.

“Like this.” Jay said while making a hacking movement with his arm. I rolled my eyes at his lame attempt at a joke while he lightly chuckled to him self. I hit him on the back of the head which effectively shut him up. Literally.

“Jay, Jay. Wake up please. Don’t die. I don’t want to live with another family. I will miss you Jay.” I said while shaking him. He would wake up. I kept repeating to my self. Time was slipping away. It had been 45 minutes since he went unconscious. I was pacing the room the whole time apart from the times when I would try and shake him awake. After many failed attempts I sat down next to him and cleaned his wound. Now that he was asleep he couldn’t stop me. After the cut was clean I bandaged it up with some tape that I found in my bedroom. As I was sitting back down on the couch Jay started to stir. I shook his shoulder slightly, wanting to see his eyes flutter open. But once again my dreams didn’t come true. His eyes remained closed as my heart sunk. Luka started to bark, signaling that someone had arrived. My heart raced thinking that Seth could have woken up. I stayed sitting next to Jay fearing going near the door.

“Miss, can you please open the door. It is the police.” A female asked. I let out the breath I was holding and walked over to the door. When I opened the door there stood a lady about 5”4 and had short brown hair. She held up a badge that signified that she was a police officer. I let her in and another 2 of her colleges.

“I am Sergeant Stead and this is Senior Constable Matthews and Constable Norman.” She said pointed to each of the men. I shook both of their hands and introduced myself.

“The paramedic will be in here in a minute. She is just getting everything out of the car.” Said Sergeant Stead. I nodded my head as a response.

“So you said that you saw Seth Adams. Is that correct?” She asked me as she took out her notebook.

“Yes it is true.” I replied back to her. She wrote down something in here book and then looked back up at me.

“And how to you know that it was him?” She asked. My heart stopped, I didn’t want to answer that question. After I built up the courage I tried to speak to her.

“He was the man who stabbed my father.” I whispered. A tear trickled down my face as I tried to beg no more to fall.

“And who is your father?” She asked. I looked up at her dumbfound.

“My father is John Andrew Brown.” I said in a little to hash of a tone. She looked taken back but kept on writing.

“And where is your friend that he tried to kill?” She asked looking around.

“He is unconscious, I think.” I replied back to her. She gave me a questioned look.

“Would we be able to see him?” I nodded my head and told her to follow. I lead her through the house until we got to the lounge room where Jay was still out cold on the couch. Constable Norman checked his pulse. Which I was hoping was still there.

“He has got a heart beat, but if we don’t get him to the hospital he may die from blunt force trauma to the head, ribs and lungs.” He said. I looked at him worried and he sent me back a sad smile. I can’t loose Jay. I wont loose my best friend. I refuse to be sent somewhere else and loose the farm. It is the last thing that I have left of my dad, I will not give up without a fight. Another knock sounded at the door and I walked over to it, opening it to see the paramedic with all of her gear.

“Hi, I’m Lacy Scott. And I’m the paramedic. Where is the patient?” She said to me.

“This way.” I replied leading her into the lounge room with the officers. She assessed Jay and I held my breath. She shook her head and kept on analyzing his body. After an agonizing time she stood up and wrote something down on a book.

“He is in a Coma and we will not know how long he could possibly be in it for until we got him to the hospital.” She said. I started crying as I walked over to Jay.

“I’m sorry Jay, please forgive me. Don’t leave me.” I said to him while I grabbed his hand.

“Miss, would you be able to direct us to where Seth Adams is?” Senior Constable Matthews asked.

“Who will stay here with Jay though? I can’t leave him alone.” I said to the in a pleading voice. He gave me a sympathetic look and then looked over at Lacy. She nodded her head and walked outside. We waited in silence for her to return.

“The ambulance is on their way.” She said. Sergeant Stead nodded her head and looked back at me.

“Lacy is going to wait here until the ambulance arrives so you will be able to come with us to show us where Seth Adams is. If you are comfortable to leave him here.” She said. I nodded my head in response and let go on Jay’s arm.

“It is a long walk so it would be easier to take the car and I will take the quad bike if that is alright.” I said to the sergeant. She swiftly nodded her head and I lead them outside.

“Ok, so if you drive over to the barn, the quad bike is over there and thats the direction we have to go. I will have to stop every so often to open up the gates so just bare with me.” I said to them. They hopped in the car while I walked over to the quad bike. I got on the quad and put it into 5th gear. I drove to the gates and opened the all. After driving for more than half an hour we stopped as we had reached the edge of the forest. The officers hopped out of the car and walked over to meet me.

“Now where did you last see him?” Senior Constable Matthews asked.

“Um, I am not completely sure of where it is exactly but I will be able to lead you there.” I said. ‘and hopefully not get lost’ I muttered. Sergeant Stead was writing in her notebook once again. After a few minutes of writing she looked back at me and smiled.

“Lead the way.” She said to me. I started to lead them. The trees all looked the same to me but I immediately recognized a tree. I knew where I was.

“This is where he found me. But then I ran trying to get away.” I said.

“And which way did you run?” Asked Constable Norman. I pointed to the left and kept on walking. We walked through the forest and I could hear my heart in my ears. It was beating so hard. I was getting closer to him. My pace slowed down as we got to the creek.

“Ok so if you step on these rocks you wont get your shoes wet.” I said as I pointed out some rock. We walked over them with ease and continued on our way. Birds flew around in the trees as we walked through the forest, they where like a soothing affect to me, i guess. We made our way through more trees and finally I saw the start of the clearing. Everything was the same. Except one thing.

He wasn’t there.
