A war has been going on for as long as I can remember. A war that has changed the face of humanity that we no longer recognize. The historians say the war started back in 3056 when creatures came down from the sky in a spacecraft that covered the entire world, leaving no room for the sun to shine through. The year is now 4578 and the war between humans and creatures has been going on for 1522 years. Throughout the years, humans have not been evolving, but going back in time when it comes to technology and simple lifestyles. Instead of improving, humanity is changing into something else, something dark. We have gone from being the most advanced civilization with abundant resources, food, technology, skyscrapers, you name it. Now, our world is in ruin, lawless, dark and the smell of decay everywhere. We are ruled by Elders now who watch your every move and punish anyone at will.
I was around 5 years of age when General Clark came knocking at my door with some very depressing news that would change my life. "I am sorry to say that your father was killed in a fight with one of the creatures." My name is Raven, and this is my story.
After the general told us the horrid news, my mother dropped to the ground as tears began to stream down her face. Screams of agony began pouring out of her mouth as the thought of my father crosses her mind. I am not crying. Instead, I am filled with anger. I had never felt so much hate before. I just want to run away and try to forget this ever happened, but I know that something this tragic can never be forgotten. Something as traumatic as this will stay imprinted in my brain forever. I wanted to get revenge for my father by going into the woods and joining a troop, but the elders will never allow it. In that moment, I knew that I was going to be a warrior, not matter what the elders say or do. Not only to get revenge for my father but to stop this endless war against the creatures.
Anyone who is still alive barely lives at all. Women are forced to be farmers and crafters to support their families, and men are put into troops and sent out into the woods to hunt down and kill the revolting creatures which haunt our woods and fill our lives with nothing but misery and grief. Every time troops went out, no more than a few came back with their lives from trying to find where the queen of the creatures hid. So far, no troop has found the queen and made it out alive to tell the rest. This makes me angry. "Why can't they find that stupid queen", "I want to be out there, helping," Growing up, I found myself having these thoughts out of anger for what they did to my father. I wish, oh how I wish I could do the same to them. Take their lives and make them suffer as they made my mother and I spend the rest of our lives in grief. My mother did not want to tell me what happened to my father, but I eventually found out from Colin. He only told me that my father fell into a cave where the queen had somehow manipulated him in some way to voluntarily be eaten by her. Everything about that freaked me out. The thought of my father dying in that way is horrid.
