I ~ Death and happily ever after

[Emma has had many ups and downs in her life, but somehow has always managed to survive. This one shot is Emma's life in about 1200 words. It's short, but I hope you enjoy.]

Her life had never been easy. Moving from foster home to foster home her entire life. Becoming friends with the wrong kind of people, who, in the end, always broke her heart. Getting pregnant at 18 from a guy who she called her boyfriend but ended up putting her in jail for a crime he committed. Giving birth in jail and never taking even a glance at her son. 'I can't be a mother,' she had said and with that, she had given him up for adoption.

When she was 26, she became a bail bonds person. She loved catching the bad guys. That's also when she found her armor. A red leather jacket that would protect her from heartbreaks. Or that's what she said anyway.

On the night of her 28th birthday, she buys herself a cupcake and a candle for on top of it. She makes a wish and not even 5 seconds later, the doorbell of her tiny apartment rings. Opening the door, a small boy around the age of ten, claims to be her son. She doesn't believe him, but ends up bringing him home to Storybrooke, Maine. When she wanted to drive out of the little peaceful town, a wolf is standing in the middle of the road. Trying to move out of the way, she drives against the 'Welcome to Storybrooke' sign and wakes up in the sheriff station the next morning. She decides to stay for a week, but many things happen which makes her stay longer.

When Henry ate a poisoned apple turnover, he was brought into the hospital, where he died. Emma, who was devastated, went to see her son one more time. 'I love you,' she said and kissed his forehead. A wave of light and energy went through her and the rest of the town. Henry was alive and well again and said, 'You did it. You broke the curse.' It appeared the little boy wasright about everything he had said the past couple of weeks.

Everyone was happy again.

Over the next two years, a lot happened. New people arrived in Storybrooke and some left and were never seen again. One of the people that came into town, was the devilishly handsome Killian Jones, or better known as Captain Hook. He Always flirted with Emma, but she just ignored it. It was only when they came back from their little trip to the past, that Emma gave in to her feelings. The kiss the two had shared, had left her breatheless.

But still, she tried to avoid him as much as possible. Only when he told her she didn't have to be afraid to lose him because he was a survivor, she gave in and that's when their relationship started.

Over the next two years, the two didn't get a lot of privacy. An ice wall,some old "friends" who returned, darkness, the Underworld, Jekyll and Hide, they went through it all. It was only after that last one, Emma dared to say 'I love you'. The first time when things were "normal". When they wanted to have sex for the first time, they were interrupted again. Hide had come into town and had brought some other people from the Land of Untold Stories with him. That's the moment Emma started having visions of her death as a saviour. But, she survived the fight and after that, Storybrooke was the peaceful town it once was all over again.

Another year later, Emma and Killian started trying for a baby. Luck was on their side and after a month of trying, Emma gets pregnant. Nine months later, their little baby girl, Leia, was born. Another three years later, a little boy they called Liam, joined the family. 

They were really happy, but both Killian and Emma still wanted another baby. They tried for five years before she got pregnant again. That's when the problems started. A few days after Ava was born, Emma got really sick. The doctor told her she had cancer and only had two more years to live.

Deciding they wanted to get the most out of it, they went on a vacation to Ireland. That is the place where Killian proposes after 12 years of being together. His speech was beautiful and sad at the same time. It began with 'I know you face an uncertain future. But I want you to be certain of one thing...' and Emma was already in tears.

6 months later, they got married. Almost the entire town was there since Emma and Killian were the heroes in town. Their honeymoon was spent in New York. Not far, but they didn't really have another choice anymore. Emma's health was decreasing faster than the doctors had said. Both were too scared to admit it, but they knew it would be less than a year before she died.

And it was true.

Seven months later, Killian, Leia, Liam and Ava found themselves in the hospital. Emma only had a few more days to live and she was too weak to spend them at home. Killian told her so much stories that had never been told, things she already knew, some really bad jokes, but most of all, how sorry he was for not proposing sooner. Then Emma would tell him with a weak voice that it was okay and that she liked being his girlfriend and that it was almost the same as being his wife even if she'd only been his wife for a few months. She also told him how he can't drown himself in alcohol and that he has to take care of their kids after she dies.

2 days later, at 9.11 pm, she took her last breath. Killian, Leia and Liam were devastated. Ava was too young to know what exactly was going on, but did know that something wasn't right.

The funeral was held a week later. Killian did as Emma had asked him. He took care of the kids and didn't touch any alcohol.

Many years went by until the moment came that Leia got married to a guy named Charles.

Killian had Always seen Emma in Leia. Not only her looks, but also her personality, her way of doing thing and all that kind of stuff.

When he was 83, he reached a stage where he knew it wouldn't be too long until he died. He could feel it, and in some way, he was happy about it. Because it meant that he could see Emma again if she hadn't moved on yet.

When the day came he died and reached the Underworld, he asked around for Emma, but no one had seen her in ages. When he convinced himself about the fact that she had moved on, he went to their house, or what looked like it anyway.

On the couch, was no other than his beautiful, lovely swan.

"There you are," she has said. "I've been waiting for you."

"H- How come you haven't moved on?"

"You are my unfinished business."

"But then why has no one seen you in ages?"

"I couldn't stand seeing the people that I knew and that you knew without you being there. Now, kiss me. It's been too long si-" And his lips were on hers.

Together, theymoved on and lived happily ever after in heaven.
