{Jade}
This was it.
Today is the day.
The day every unmated female is dragged around to all 7 Packs to find her mate.
Of course, my parents have been looking forward to this day since I was 4 years old. Me, not so much. A lot happened when I was 4, too. I met my best friend, Bryce, who my parents were sure would be my mate. But Bryce and I saw each other as siblings.
Besides, Bryce is gay and living in the Jupiter Pack now.
As I said before, there are 7 Packs in total, one for each planet (besides Earth).
The Mercury Pack
The Venus Pack
The Mars Pack
The Jupiter Pack
The Saturn Pack
The Uranus Pack
The Neptune Pack
And each Pack's morals ride off of the astrological description of the personalities associated with them. My home Pack, the Venus Pack, believes in love and beauty.
The Mercury Pack believes in intelligence and socializing.
The Mars Pack believes in strength and boldness.
The Jupiter Pack believes in freedom and desire.
The Saturn Pack believes in stability and order.
The Uranus Pack believes in individuality and justice.
And, lastly, the Neptune Pack believes in spirituality and friendship.
I take a sip of water, trying to shake the nerves that are currently racking my body. Honestly, I'm not sure if I really want to find my mate. It's purely daunting. But then again, the thought of living forever with the one the Moon Goddess destined for me sounds... amazing.
Ugh. Curse me and my indecisive brain.
Just then, I hear the bells ring out. Alpha Jarron summoning us. Summoning me.
I stand up, my legs shaking in anticipation. I slowly walk down the stairs of my family's home, careful to make sure I don't fall down the stairs.
My mother stands at the sight of me, giving me a reassuring smile. My father turns, giving me a knowing look. She runs to me, embracing me for the last time. Or at least, the last time for the next few days.
I grab my bag that was next to the door and step outside. Closing my eyes and taking a few deep breaths, I begin walking towards the sound of the bells. I've heard the bells every year prior to this one, but never have they been so striking.
I've never seen Alpha Jarron up close. That is usually an honor reserved for other Alphas or wolves that are higher up than I. But today is a special day, where I'll get to see him with my own two eyes.
I hope he's as handsome as the girls say he is.
I see my friend Rylee walking up ahead. She always seems to have a pep in her step, and maybe she could excite me about this.
"Rylee!" I call. She turns around, smiling and running towards me. I giggle, linking arms with her. We're close, but not as close as Bryce and I were.
"I can't believe it, Jade. We're actually going to find our mates!" She says, her eyes sparkling with childlike wonder. Already, I'm beginning to feel better about this.
"I know. I wonder what they're like..." I trail off, getting sucked deeper into my thoughts. I have to shake them off.
This is going to be good. You'll be happy.
I repeat that to myself over and over in my head as Rylee babbles about who-knows-what from beside me, until we reach The Platform.
And on it, is the most handsome man I've ever seen.
Alpha Jarron.
Silence falls over everyone. Even Rylee stops talking to admire the masterwork presented in front of us.
He seems to notice everyone's gawking, and smirks knowingly. He's probably seen this a million times.
"Hello everyone!" His deep, silky voice rings out. "As you already know, today is the start of the Mating Ceremony. I hope you all have said goodbye to your families, because you won't be seeing them again for about a week."
Alpha Jarron turned to a man I didn't recognize who was also on The Platform. He whispered to him for a second, before turning back to us.
"Well, let's not waste anymore time. Everyone, please board the train."
We all turned to a giant black engine that was on the tracks next to The Platform. The man next to Alpha Jarron had us lined up in about 6 different lines, each boarding a different passenger compartment.
Luckily, Rylee and I were placed into the same compartment, sitting next to each other.
On the outside, the train was sleek and clean, looking like it was manufactured yesterday and we're the first to use it. The outside contrasted from the interior, as it was comfortable and a bit homey feeling, even though it was a train.
Of course, it'd have to be comfortable for the girls who didn't find their mate in the earlier stops.
Last year, it was Mercury Pack's job to send their girls out first. This time, it's Venus Pack's.
The train's engine grinds to life, and we start moving forward slowly. I watch as my home fades behind me amidst the trees to hide us from humans and rival packs.
I sigh, and turn to Rylee, but she's busy on her phone. Probably texting her friends from Neptune Pack.
I look back outside, seeing a few butterflies, and silently praying that they would leave my stomach.
