Mum,

I went outside and explored the property for the first time. Not that interesting.

Mum,

I helped Nancy polish the silver when Ms. Merwin wasn't in the room. It was odd, though, because Nancy thought there were more pieces, rather than the 40 we shined. In any case, my fingers feel all waxy now.

Mum,

I didn't think I would miss Victoria this much. We've only just met.

Mum,

I received a small letter from Victoria today. Claire seemed rather peeved that I had gotten something and she didn't. Here is part of what she wrote me:

I mean this in the best way but I'm surprised I miss you this much! We've only known each other for a short bit, yet I can't wait to see you again.

So, she feels sisterly too, eh?

Mum,

I saw you last night. You were in the Volkswagen singing along to the radio. Then, the next second, the car was flipped over on the road and your body lay tangled in the brush.

I woke up screaming.

Either nobody heard me or nobody cared enough to check on me.

I know I wasn't there so how is it possible that I can imagine the scene so clearly?

Mum,

Victoria comes home tomorrow. I will be glad when we begin the investigation again. I want answers now, more than ever.
