I tried to control my tears but once one fell, the rest had to follow. Austin picked me up and sat me on his lap, enclosing his arms around me as I violently shook from the despair that was escaping my body. I sobbed onto his bare chest as he gently smoothed my hair behind my ears. Through many hiccups in my breath, I managed to speak, "I didn't," "I didn't know you kn-knew."
His arms made their way back around my shoulders, hugging me closer to him. "I tried to get you away from Dillon, why do you think I was so harsh to him when I found out he liked you?"
"You have to tell him." He placed gentle pressure on my shoulders and got me to sit up straight as I sat on his lap.
I bit my lip and closed my eyes. "He'll hate me, Austin."
"He'll hate you more if he doesn't find out from you," I felt a warm tear slip down my cheek. I watched it land on the top of Austin's stomach. I watched how his stomach slightly tensed when the droplet hit his skin.
I wiped it away with the tips of my fingers, gently caressing his exposed skin. "What do I tell him?" I whispered.
He took my hand and placed his lips to my knuckles, "The truth."
