"Louise, I really, really want to do this! Why do you think that we're- that he's not-" Phil struggled to spit out opposingly at his friend, gesticulating so feverishly that his arms hurt. "Why? Why do you think that? Tell me-"

"Phil! Will you listen to me?" Louise almost shouted, near sweating because of this important conversation. Phil stopped, looking into her eyes and nodding before sitting on the edge of the seat behind him. Louise took a deep breath before continuing. "Okay, I know you're opposed to my opinion, but will you just listen to me?"

There was some silence on Phil's part. "Okay, I'm listening," Phil agreed then, dragging a hand over his face and up into his hair, it now being pushed into a quiff.

"Look, I know you two have been together for three years, I understand that. But you saw what happened with me! We got married only two years in, right after he found out I was pregnant, and we were done within a year's time! Don't you see? I'm not at all suggesting that it's too
fucking early, but I don't think he's ready yet."

She sat, dramatically fanning her face as she was now sweating. They were currently in Louise's house, Phil having come over before Dan and him were supposed to go to dinner. He wanted to do it tonight, he just needed a second opinion.

"Tell me, Louise, why the hell is it you think he's not ready?" Phil pestered, exasperatedly running a hand through his hair again.

"You guys literally got together just before he got kicked out by his parents, he's fucking nineteen! He's been through so much yet so little, he needs to live his life. He's had such a rough life, and he's nineteen for god's sake!" Louise listed, Phil standing up. He just couldn't sit still anymore.

"I know he's nineteen, do I look like a fucking retard to you? And even then, we're only two years apart. But that's the thing, Louise, I want to live the rest of my life with him!" He was too built up for this, he just wanted to leave and go to dinner with Dan, but he couldn't leave yet.

"But what about him? Do you know if he wants that as well?" Louise questioned, lowering her voice. She spoke with such care, she really did care about her best friend. Phil sighed indecisively, throwing himself back onto the floor with a thud as he whispered out a response.

"That's why it's called a proposal," Phil whispered, closing his eyes and draping an arm over his eyes. He had to pick Dan up from a class, and then go home and change, all whilst keeping his nerves and anxiety about the whole thing, as well as the ring he was going to propose with, hidden from Dan.

"I'm sorry, Phil, I just think it's too early. Maybe you should reconsider the time? Maybe when Dan is a little more skilled at life. You know, maybe once he gets over needing medication, needing therapy, it would be better for him." Louise was so intent in this and Phil knew she had reason. He shrugged, feeling the tickling sensation overcome his nose and the wetness come to his eyes before he could oppose.

"I just.. don't know anymore."

"Phil?" a smooth, worried voice came through the speaker phone, sending chills down Phil's back. "Where are you? Did you forget that I asked you to pick me up from my class?"
