I Wanna Be a Soldier

Yes, I want to be a soldier,
Bring peace in every home,
Saluting none but the True,
Not Britain, Mongols, Rome*.

Oh my people, why's it so
That when a Muslim, such as me
Wants to be a soldier, why d'you
Assume I'll go on a killing spree?

Oh my people, don't you know
That we all love our motherland,
That we'd serve it tooth and nail,
That I can die for my motherland?

And my motherland isn't restricted
By borders made by men;
All the world's my own family
We're the colour of humanity.

And anyway, in Islam,
Innocent blood's sacred,
That if one kills one man
~ humankind they have killed.

And thus I stand for Truth,
For justice then our blood,
'though blood's a whole lot expensive,
It's our souls that have loved.

Our Lord, our Creator,
Knows well I haven't betrayed
My people, my blood, myself
Or the mud with which we were made.

* Not to imply that the Roman, Mongol and British Empires were necessarily untrue, but the truth factor would be the primary determinant, regardless of the power, and power-worship they received.
