"I think I'm gonna go home." he mumbles, standing up. Zoe looked at him with a piteous stare, he hated when people gave him that look.
"You sure? I could come-," Troye cuts her off shaking his head. Zoe hugged him tightly whispering to him, "Don't let it get to you, if you need to leave go to my house." Troye pulled himself out of the hug, opening the bathroom door, and walking out.
He walked out of the school, pulling his headphones over his ears. The rain had stopped, but it didn't stop the cold from seeping into his bones. puddles splashed on his black boots distancing him from the fear he had growing in his chest.
Troye waited at the public bus stop. His body grew rigid as he started to remember the incident from last night that left him with a bruised rib and a fearful taste in his mouth. He didn't want to go home because he knew his parents would be home. But that was the only place he ran to when things got bad.
__
Troye looked at his house in fear as he stepped off the bus. His father's car was parked in the driveway making his heart speed up ten times faster. His mother wasn't home which meant his father wouldn't go easy on him. He could've went to Zoe's but he knew better not to.
He stood at the front door afraid to open it. He knew his parents wouldn't be too happy that he skipped school. Especially his father, he would be fuming at the seams with anger. He slowly opened the door, shutting it softly. He raced for the stairs running as fast as his legs could. He wasn't fast enough.
"Hey Troye? why the fuck are you home?" his father yelled from the bottom of the steps. Troye shut his eyes for a moment thinking of a lie he could tell his father. "i'm talking to you, you faggot!" he yells waking up the steps. Troye gulped down the fear in his mouth, wincing at his father's harsh words. he sank down on the steps, ready for the beating he knew that was coming.
"I-I got sick and the nurse sent me home." he stutters trying to catch his breath. His father was now at eye level with him and Troye couldn't hold back the fear in his chest.
His father held back his hand, striking his cheek. The impact made him stumble back in shock. His father held his hand back striking him again. Troye tried his hardest not to cry out in pain, but his face was stinging. His father slapped him one last time, moving away from him.
"Don't come into my house and lie to me again! you got that?" Troye nodded, not trusting his voice. "I'm talking to you damn it!" his father yells kicking the boy who laid on the steps. Troye winced in pain, his already bruised ribs aching in pain.
"Y-yeah I got it, dad." he stumbles on his words fear in his tone. His father reeked of beer and whiskey. Troye knew he'd been out drinking and came home to drink more.
Troye raced up the stairs, walking into the bedroom he shared with his younger brother Tyde. Tyde sat on his bed, crying softly. He hated seeing his big brother go through so much pain every day. He wished it was him his father would hit, he wished Troye didn't have to experience so much physical harm. Tyde pulled Troye into a hug not letting the older boy go. He left out a sob, making tyde's chest ache.
"I wish it all would stop. Why does it keep happening?" he sobbed holding tightly onto Tyde. "Sage i-i-sn't-," Tyde cuts his off with a whimper at her name.
"You deserve better, he's not our father anymore. He's just a man who went bad." Tyde says trying his best to comfort his brother. "She deserved better." he whispers softly to himself.
Troye knew he deserved better, but he denied it knowing it wasn't really true. Tyde deserved to have a brother to protect him, not the other way around. Troye wished he could protect Tyde from the monster they call their father. But he couldn't. He couldn't protect Sage from the monster and that scared him.
"You deserve a better brother, both of you do." he whispers softly, hugging him tighter. Tyde didn't say a word. He just continued to hug him.
"It'll be over soon." Tyde softly whispers. Troye hoped it would, he knew it wouldn't end till he left for college but that meant Tyde had no one to protect him.
"No it won't." he replies softly.
