Chapter 5

When I woke up it was to an empty room, I was in my bed wrapped up in my duvet and

blankets. I was still in my long striped pyjama bottoms that I had changed into after my

shower and a vest top. As I got up I looked out my window to see a midnight sky covered by

the glow of a not yet full moon. I couldn't help but think how beautiful the simple things in

life could be. I got up grabbed my sketchbook and pencils and went down stairs; there was

no way I could go back to sleep now. I felt rested and there was too much going on through

my mind right now to be able to go back to sleep.

When I reached the living room I walked over to where the French doors were, grabbed a

hoody and went to sit on the sun lounger on the decking we have leading into the garden. I

sighed and looked out past the garden staring at the forest and gradually looking up at the

moon. Unconsciously I opened my sketch book and started to draw, not really thinking about

what it is was I was drawing, I just thought of everything that had happened to me in the last

month and my future. I mean I was 17 years old, almost 18 and I had no idea what I wanted

to in my life. Sure I would love to have a family and a place I could call home where I was

surrounded by people who loved me for me, but I couldn't help but think about the death of

my mother, and how it had changed me so.

I used to be this confident girl who had finished high school a year early, I had a huge group

of friends who I loved to be around. But when my mother died everything changed, for the

few months where I was still at home before the social services tried to take me away, I was

antisocial, I didn't speak to my friends and I changed my whole appearance (well my clothes

and I had red highlights put in my waist length brown hair) I started to wear dark gothic

style clothes, the majority of my clothes were now black, well I was constantly in mourning, I

basic wore clothes that reflected my mood.

I continued to think and try sort out my thoughts while in the background I could see the sky

gradually turning from black, to a rand of pinks and purples and to finally the light blue of

an early morning. I had continued to draw throughout the night, but just as the night turned

into morning I could feel my eyes drop as if they were carrying ten ton weights. I stretched

my legs out and curled up on my side drifting off into a light peaceful sleep.

When I awoke it was to the unpleasant sight of Lyall and his gang of rabid dogs. I looked up

at all of them and instantly knew that my eyes were the blue of my wolf. I was about to

speak when he clamped his hand over my mouth. I growled into his hand and if I hand

superpowers he would be six feet under by now from the evil glare I was giving him.

"Awww don't be like that sweet heart, I just wanna play" he said in his most evil voice.

I just stared at him, thinking of ways I could turn this into my advantage, I knew it was still

early morning and no one was up yet and so I would have to deal with this myself. Then an

idea formed in my head and I knew my eyes lit up with confidence and my covered mouth

hid a smile. I leaned forward into Lyall and started to act like a female wolf in heat, well to

a more discreet level of course, basically I was just your average horny teenager but with

wolf characteristics. You see whether in human or wolf form we tend to mix the attitudes of

both of our forms together hence the term werewolf, but of course we have more wolf

tendencies overall any way. So I basically started to show an interest the wolf way, leaning

my head into the crux of his neck like a puppy, smelling and to an extent purring well it

sounded more like a growl but others of our kind can tell what we mean by our growls.

Lyall seemed shocked by my behaviour and began to reciprocate my actions with the same

of his own. When he finally removed his hand from my mouth I leaned in to kiss him. It was

then that my opportunity was present I looked up in to his lust filled, emotionless eyes and

growled, then I lifted up my legs and pushed him off of me. That was when the fun really

began. Once he recovered from his shock he turned half wolf, which is also known as our

beast form, this is when we our human but some of our characteristics are wolf, we grow

our claws and our teeth elongate. I did the same knowing I was more vulnerable, not

because I was a female but because of my size.

We stared into each other's eyes, waiting for the first move, his gang had all moved away

knowing that if they interfered they would be in trouble, wolf law states that whenever

there is a challenge between wolves which results in a battle it can only involve two wolves

any interference is punishable by the pack alpha. Tired of waiting he lunged for my neck, he

acted to quickly and I sidestepped out of the way as he crashed into the sun lounger. He

recovered quickly and this time managed to hit me in the face with a back handed hit, his

claws narrowly missing my face. I flew through the air and rolled to a stopped in the garden.

And so it carried on like that until I knew all of my family were there watching at the

sidelines, we were both covered in cuts and bruises and I felt the similar pain of broken ribs

run through my chest. Ugh its time I finished this, I was exhausted we had been fighting for

over an hour and a half. Lyall managed to land one hit again to my face and I crumpled to

the ground feigning weakness. Although I was in pretty bad shape, I had hear his footsteps

approach, as well as the shouts of my brothers and sister, my father not yet aware of the

situation for whatever reason of his. As he bent down towards me and turned me on to my

back I raised my right hand and struck him on the temple, he once again flew backwards

this time remaining on the ground. I didn't worry though, he would be up and about again in

no time.

I got up and stumbled a little, when I gained my composure I walked back up to the decking

but not before speaking to Lyall.

"Don't you ever come near me again" I growled into him and kicked him on last time.

I turned back around to find all my brothers and Christian there with smiles on their faces.

Hmm who knew all it took to gain respect from your long lost family was beating up a guy.

Wow I sure do learn something new every day, I thought to myself sarcastically.
