Another Sharpie Incident.

My ELA teacher has been out of school for a week because of her health, so we have had this substitute that is a retired teacher. She is really soft spoken and nice but my class—
My class has no sympathy for the subs.
We've been reading a book Diary Of A Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, and it mentioned homophobia. Here's the thing, the sub stops every few seconds when she reads a sentence and she asks us a question. So she asked what homophobia meant.
She goes over to the board and takes a marker (a permanent marker) and writes homophobia.
Everyone starts yelling at her. "Stop! Stop! That's a sharpie!"
"I know how to control a marker." She responds to us, and she's angry.
Literally everyone has no one has no idea what to do, because the ELA teacher is going to be so pissed when she comes back. She's going to get offended and start asking around, I'm pretty sure.
What would you do?
How do you get sharpie off the board?
Oy. Another sharpie incident. Only this one is less musical.
