Amelie stays silent for a moment, looking at me in the eyes. "Of course you are...You are worth everything, Jim. I really don't know what I would do without you."
Smiling at her weakly, I take her hands on mine, feeling her soft skin as we lock our fingers together. "I really don't know what I would do without you either."
But I sense that there is something that Amelie wants to say, as she remains silent and just stares at me with a sort of dreamingly expression on her face, as if she simply just wanted to move past the previous painful topic. And it is impossible for me to not feel curious about what she will speak, as I can just feel that it is finally a set of good news.
"Jim," she starts, smiling a little bit, and wiping a tear away. "I have to tell you something."
"What?" I say, suddenly excited.
Amelie takes her tote bag from the back of her chair, digging inside to find something. It is then that I see she holds several white cards that seem like pictures, albeit I can't really see what they hold.
"Look at them," she says, handing the images to me.
I turn them around, not really expecting what they could be. But as I see what they actually are...I take a deep breath, and suddenly feel the urge to let a tear out, smiling.
"Jim...I am pregnant....I went to the doctor already, and he told me our baby is absolutely fine."
I can't help but turn to look at Amelie with tears of happiness in my eyes, finding that she is smiling and with tears in her eyes as well. "Really?" I say, still without being able to believe it. But as I see Amelie, nod her head without hesitation—I stand up from my chair and embrace her in a tight hug, kissing her on the lips with an uncountable amount of love. "This is amazing," I whisper, but then laugh a little bit.
Amelie chuckles. "What's funny?" she asks with a little bit of confusion.
"Did we really make love in the middle of the woods?"
She laughs, nodding her head. "Yes we did."
But one sudden thought abruptly switches my mood, bringing me into a question I don't really want to ask. "But, sweetie....I am very sorry for asking you this, but....how do you know the baby isn't Colin's?" I say with a painful tone of voice.
Amelie suddenly lets a breath out, her smile fading away. "Colin can't have kids, Jim. Confirmed it myself. And also...the timing is exact."
I nod with my lips pressed on a solid line, holding her hand tightly, but letting go to take back my seat.
"Would you like to order anything?" Her voice sounds suddenly in my ears with a change of topic.
"Oh, I'm fine. You go ahead, my stomach has been feeling funny these past days."
Amelie looks at me suspiciously, but with a slight worry echoed in her eyes. "Funny?" she asks confused.
"Yeah, nauseated and stuff. I haven't been eating much really...Makes me want to puke."
And after a small pause of just staring at me with concerned eyes, she continues, "And you haven't talked to a doctor?"
"Oh no...Sweetie, I'll be fine," I say, taking her hands on mine, and looking at her in the eyes. "......I promise."
Jim and Amelie's POV
After a long day of walking, laughing, and kissing around Paris as they usually do—Jim and Amelie decided to go back to the hotel where Amelie is staying. There is really no way to explain how happy they feel. Other than Karen still being free, they can finally say their relief is much at being together in full remembrance with Colin finally caged where he deserves.
