32. Unconditional { Part Three }

Amelie looks at me with a small smile and a curious expression on her face. "What?"

"That I believed there was something going on between us that we didn't know about. That we were married," I say with a slight smile.

"And why did you suddenly change the subject? I've been having the doubt about what you wanted to say that day for so long! And I didn't have my memories then, so your 'belief' would've helped, you know?" Amelie says with a light chuckle.

"When I left for a while because I received a call, it was Mayim, and she said that I shouldn't tell you that because she had your marriage certificate with Colin in her hands," I state. "I needed nothing else other than that to just make me believe that what I thought was complete nonsense and that I was going insane."

Amelie nods silently and slowly, making me realize that she understands what I am saying.

"But anyways," I continue. "Back to the original topic.....I wanted to kill Karen. The look on her face when she saw me walking from behind the wall was priceless though." I chuckle. "She knew she had screwed up GREATLY, first time her plans didn't work...and Colin would be killing her if he found out of course....And I started shouting at her—really, I'd never felt that way before! I was so mad—"

"And with great reason," says Amelie, widening her eyes.

"Yeah! So I kicked her out of my house." I pause for a moment, pressing my lips on a tight line as I stare into her eyes. "I was in love with you, crazily in love. And I didn't understand how until I listened to that. The problem was that I didn't remember anything, and it was seriously making me go insane," I say. "I wanted to go take you from Colin since the first day of course...but Mayim told me that in order to do that we had to create a very complex and perfect method. I didn't want to take the risk of making Colin hurt you more, so I listened to her." A pause. "It took me about two weeks to get my memories back. And on the day I recovered them...I didn't even wait. I just went looking for you, but...you weren't home. I only found Colin with a wounded leg."

Amelie looks down at the ground, tightening her hold on my hands and sighing a little.

"I wanted to kill him, Amelie. I was about to actually. If Beth, Clarisse, and Danielle wouldn't have arrived at that moment—I would've chocked him, and Colin would be dead by now...though maybe I would be in prison, I don't know, but....I was convinced on finishing him...especially after what he said..." It hurts me to just recall the horrible man's words from that day. When sitting in front of Amelie, it is like a stab in my heart to imagine her in that situation. Forced to do with that man what I would be doing with her in the most gentle and subtle way—all my attention on her satisfaction—when that self-centered bastard probably just thought about himself without minding whether he would bruise her and hurt her or not.

"And...what did he say?" asks Amelie, sounding a little bit scared of listening to the answer.

I hesitate on my seat for a moment, breaking the connection of her eyes with mine, and drowning in a sort of pain that I just don't want to feel. "He forced you to sleep with him...Is it true?"

Amelie retires her sight from me; looking suddenly devastated, worried, and sorry. "Jim," she starts, looking down at the ground with tears in her eyes, and with a weak and trembling voice. "I am so so so sorry. I didn't want to—"

"Amelie," I say, pulling her chin up gently so that she can look at me. Cupping her face with my hands softly, I wipe a tear away from her smooth cheek. "You don't have to apologize, darling. It wasn't your fault....I know that Colin threatened you with my life, and that you did it for me. I am forever thankful for that...though you shouldn't have sacrificed yourself like that. I am not worth it."
