I walked into school and smiled at everyone who looked my way.

Kevin and I awkwardly sat next to each other without a word for a few weeks and hung out at McDonald's or my house having awkward conversations or getting high and him giving those devious eyes.

I don't have his phone number or instagram or kik. I don't even know the kid's last name.

But I guess I'll just ask him in my last period.

I walked to my locker and took out my math book.

I saw him walking through the hall but he was too far away to shout for. Even when we did actually pass each other we didn't say hi we didn't even look at each other. Until 6th period.

I sat down in my seat and turned to him.

He looked up from his desk and at me. I smiled and waved. He waved back but no smile. I wasn't expecting one anyway.

The teacher announced to get in our partnered groups and I walked over to his desk, plopping my stuff down in the seat next to him.

"Howdy partner" I joked

"Hi" He said.

I wasn't going to let him kill my happiness.

"Did you enjoy your day yesterday? I heard you hung out with that really cool chick, Emma?" I asked referring to myself.

"You're funny, Emma." He slightly smiled

"Well I try to be" I chuckled

"Is this not the weirdest thing you've ever been assigned?" He asked

"No it really is" I laughed

"But Ms. Snow is a romantic and I think she just wants everyone to love everyone." I added

"Yeah I can tell because she cried when we watched Romeo and Juliet" He said

"Well who doesn't?" I asked

"Well for starters.. Someone who watches it 6 periods a day for 4 days in a row." He said

"You make an amazing point. She's insane" I joked

I heard the ghost of a laugh come from his mouth.

I'm breaking through that tough exterior and getting to the gooey goodness that is his personality.

"Why don't we go to your house today?" I asked

He shook his head, "My mom will think there's hope for me if she thinks I have a friend."

"Oh so I'm not a friend?" I asked, clutching my chest as if I was hurt

"No" He said

"Ouch okay." I laughed

Forget the part about that exterior breaking thing. His exterior is in perfect condition.

It got awkwardly silent for a minute before the teacher said she had to leave the room to take a call.

What did he mean by "my mom will think there's hope for me"? Is he that introverted?

"So... How old are you?" I asked

"18" He said

"Cool I'm 17." I smiled

His eyes stayed facing forward.

I cleared my throat, "What's your last name?" I asked

"Khatchadourian" He said, fixing his position in his chair.

"Exotic" I chuckled

He stayed quiet.

"I like you better when you're high" I huffed, crossing my arms and facing forward.

From the corner of my eye I could see him fighting a smile.

"If we're gonna spend 2 months of our senior year on this project then we may as well get a good grade." I said

He was silent.

I rolled my eyes and looked down at my hands.

"When's your birthday?" He asked as if he was just trying to get me to shut up

"March 7th" I answered

"January 7th" He smirked

"What's your last name?" He asked

"Satine" I responded

"Exotic" He mocked

I smiled.

Maybe I was right about the exterior.
