Chapter Fourteen: 그래 니가 맞아 (Yes, You're The Right One)

"Oppa, son," she said, reaching out with her palm facing up.

"Hmm?" he asked, looking at her questioningly.

"Son chu," she repeated, putting her hand closer to him.

He gave her his hand, and she interlocked their fingers, pulling it to rest on her lap. Turning to look at her, he said, "How am I going to drive like that?"

"You'll manage," she said obstinately, refusing to return him his hand.

He laughed, releasing the foot brake and driving forward, steering with only one hand.

"Gomawo," she suddenly said, when he stopped at a red light.

She leaned against the seat, facing him, tenderly stroking the flesh on the back of his hand, her gaze soft and warm.

"Wae?"

"For bringing me here."

"Even though you were scared out of your wits?" He asked, sounding surprised, glancing at her from the corner of his eye.

She pouted slightly, feeling heat on her cheeks.

"My reaction wasn't that ridiculous, was it?"

He laughed, squeezing her hand.

"No, you were adorable," he said, grinning, which made her smile. "But I didn't know that you'd be that scared. You're normally so fearless."

"I'm weak at heights, oppa," she replied, fiddling with his fingers. "At the amusement park, the rollercoasters have safety straps on, so I know that I'll be safe. But back there we were only held up by the rope and nothing else. It made me feel very insecure."

"That's why you need a man to protect you," he joked, puffing out his chest and making a show to sit up straight.

"Who?" Joy teased back, looking around with big movements. Then she paused and grinned. "Oooooh, do you mean Hyunsik-ssi?"

"Ya!" He said, immediately glaring at her. "Na ya, na! Don't you dare look anywhere else!"

Laughing heartily, she nudged his shoulder.

"Don't worry. I only want to look at you," she said sincerely, giving him the warm fuzzies again. "You even remembered to shout my wish when I was too busy being scared."

"I had a feeling that would be the furthest from your mind."

"It was," she paused, thinking over her words, the worry of the week once again coming back to her. "What if I really can't hit the note properly? It will really affect Red Velvet's performance, wouldn't it? And the eonnis and Yeri worked so hard. It wouldn't be fair to them."

"That wouldn't happen because I know you're already working your hardest. Do you feel so scared because you feel like you can't meet the expectations of your managers and sonsaengnims SM?"

She nodded and replied in a tiny voice, "I feel afraid that I would let them down. I know I'm not that good a singer. I'm trying, but it's hard."

"Instead of letting their trust pressure you, why not let it be something that gives you confidence? They trust you because they see the potential in you. But if you're afraid, you end up thinking about it so much you forget to enjoy the moment and botch up the performance for yourself."
