Author's Note: Hello everyone! It's my first SungJoy fanfic, so I hope I adequately captured both their personalities. They're so cute together on WGM that I feel it's such a pity that they're not for real. So here's me fantasising what if it were. I got inspiration for this fic watching their Marry You performance and hearing them sing it. Lastly, every chapter title will be bits of song lyrics. Cookies for you if you get both the song title and artist right! Enjoy!

P.S. The photo I used to make the cover (I did make the cover) of this fanfiction isn't mine. I simply grabbed it off Google, but it wouldn't link me to the tumblr it was originally from. If it's yours, please let me know, so I can properly credit (and thank!) you for the nice edit.

Disclaimer: I own neither Sungjae nor Joy nor their heartmeltingly adorable performance of Bruno Mars' Marry You. But you already knew that.

Chapter One: 우리 처음 만난 (The Day We First Met)

She was wiping her palms on her skirt. Again. It's not usual for her to feel this nervous, but this was not a situation she was prepared for. Sure, she's met guys before. Heaps and heaps of them. But those were always at fan-meets when the people already liked her and she didn't have to convince them otherwise. This was different. What if he hated her? What if he didn't like her charm? Ooooh, she couldn't bear that.

Think happy thoughts, think happy thoughts. Puppies licking my fingers, tiny marshmallows on hot chocolate, sweaty han- oh DANG IT!

She was back to clinging onto her neatly pressed skirt and ruining the ruffles again. Her fingers felt cold and stiff, and very very wet. She unclenched and clenched her fist, bunching up more of her clothes.

"Sooyoung ah, stop that, please! He's a nice boy; you'll like him! I wouldn't bethroth my precious daughter to someone I know she wouldn't like. Loosen up!" her mother reprimanded, her harsh tone contrasting with soft hands which was gently prying Joy's fingers off her skirt where she was wrinkling the hem. Her mother's warm, comforting touch soothed her nerves just a little bit. "Trust me and your appa," her mother said as she kissed her on the temple. "I love you, sweetie."

She let out a breath she didn't realise she was holding in.

"Okay, omma. I trust you."

Even as she said it, she felt them jerk to a stop and heard her appa's voice being carried from the front seat. "We're here, darling."

They have arrived at the café where the meeting was going to take place. She took another deep breath and readied herself while she released it. From the moment she stepped out of the van, she was on her own. Her gut clenched.

I hope he likes to sing, at least. She thought to herself as she watched the van carrying her last source of security away from her.

She turned to face the glass entrance.

This is it.

Tap. Tap. Tap tap tap. Tap. Tap tap.

There he went again, tapping his fingers to the latest beat. Random tunes always get stuck in his head at the most inappropriate times. Like now, for example.

Abandoning his seat, Sungjae got up and started pacing back and forth, to the counter and back to his table, earning some weird glances from the few patrons in the cosy little café. Not that he took a single bit of notice. He was too busy contemplating his plight.

He understood the value of tradition, and respected his parents for it. After all, his parents' marriage was also lovingly arranged by their parents at their prime and they are still happily in love today. Twenty-eight years after "I do" and they still put in the effort for each other everyday.

He wanted that. He trusted his parents and believed that they chose well. But he was inexperienced. He never knew what it meant to date or take care of someone else. He was the youngest in the family. Having an older sister does have its advantages, but he was still apprehensive. To top that, BTOB's career was only just taking off, and he wasn't sure if announcing an engagement now was the best time. After all, he was too young to be wed.

His brows continued to furrow as he plopped himself back into the comfortable cushioned throne chair near the back of the café. A lock of fringe fell into his eyes and he brushed it impatiently to the side, still lost in his thoughts.

Suddenly, a loud thump came from the entrance and the glass jingled helplessly on its hinges. The noise in the café stopped abruptly as all necks craned towards the door to find a young girl rubbing her head quite vigorously.

With cheeks stained a deep red colour, she pulled the door (as per instructions on the door. Why do people invent doors that only swing one way, anyway??) and came in, bowing lowly multiple times to apologise for the disturbance.

She started moving inward, so when she looked up mid-bow, her eyes caught a pair of surprised, brown eyes staring right at her.

"Joy-ssi?" Sungjae stood up hurriedly and took steps towards her. "Are you..." He hesitated, unsure how to ask the question.

"...here waiting because of a family engagement?" Joy asked, cleverly choosing the word 'engagement'. It's a miracle she could function. She was fighting so hard for her jaw to not hit the floor.

The tension broke as Sungjae gave a warm smile.

"Hello, nice to meet you, I'm Sungjae." He bowed politely, eyes never leaving hers. "That was clever, Joy. I look forward to getting to know you."

For the second time in the day, Joy felt heat rush to her face. His gaze was sincere and attentive, it was intense and mischievous. His smile was welcoming and fun, but she felt like it held an element of danger. Was she mistaken? She couldn't look away.

"Hello, nice to meet you too. My name is Joy. Please take care of me."

Sungjae's smile seemed to widen at that, while his eyes twinkled.

"Sure. What shall I get you? An ice cream milkshake, or 'dalgumhan geu mat ice cream cake'?"

Joy laughed while he walked to the counter to order.

This is going to be interesting.
