I take a jump, a leap, a hop,
into the cold dark
blue.
Closing my eyes,
I'm supposed to find
the very straightforward clue.
I open my eyes
one by one
but I don't see a thing.
Coming back up,
only to find that
everybody's got a ring.
Instructor frowns
and questions why
I haven't gotten it yet.
Saying sorry real quick,
I go back down
to make sure my goal is met.
But I can't find my ring
though I'm pretty sure
I looked everywhere.
I dove back down
at the same height
but I still can't find it anywhere.
Coming back up,
the instructor sighs
and jumps down to get it for me.
She clambers on out
with a big frown adorned
asking how come I couldn't see?
More apologies were given
but I couldn't help but feel
a sensation of utter defeat.
If other people could do it,
why can't I?
I guess I dove too deep.
