It was around ten, and my parents had gone out for a romantic stroll, leaving me in charge of my siblings. After some amount of effort, they were in bed and silent. I had turned on the TV, eating some chocolate ice cream with passion in my pyjamas, a baggy Converse sweatshirt that belonged to my dad and some dotted pants.

My phone suddenly jumped and started ringing. I swore under my breath, place the ice cream bowl on the coffee glass table, muted the TV and picked it up.

‘Hello?’ I asked, slightly irritated.

‘Hellooooooooo!’ said an abnormally high-pitched voice, ‘How you doing?’

I instantly knew this was a prank call. I searched my brain as who it could possibly be.

‘Cut it out,’ I sighed.

‘OMG! SHUT UP!’ the person’s voice had changed to a girly one.

First of all, I hated it when people did this, and this one wasn’t even funny. It was simply sad and embarrassing.

‘Seriously, stop it.’

A high-pitched squeal burst out of the speaker and I hurled the phone away from me in fear. I swore under my breath, before picking it up again.

‘Okay, I’m hanging up now,’ I stated.

‘No, wait Marie! It’s Niall,’ the voice said.

I stopped in my tracks. What did he just say? It’s Niall?

‘Who?’ I whispered.

‘Niall? Niall Horan,’ he continued.

I shook my head.

‘Niall what are you doing?’ I asked curiously.

‘Sorry, we got bored. Didn’t want to piss you off like that,’ he explained. His Irish accent bare in his voice made my heart skip a beat.

‘You are terrible at this,’ I grinned.

‘I know.’

I laughed. I then got up and grabbed the ice cream to replace it in the freezer, licking the spoon, holding the phone between my shoulder and ear.

‘So… what are you doing right now?’ he asked.

‘I am… putting ice cream back in the freezer,’ I recited, smiling.

‘Fatty,’ he teased.

‘Rude,’ I put on my best Bon Qui Qui voice.

He chuckled.

‘And, I am also watching some British show on TV. You guys have really bad television,’ I smiled.

‘Rude,’ he imitated me.

I exploded into laughter, tears swelling up in my eyes.

‘Breathe,’ he chuckled.

‘So… where’s your family?’ he continued at my silence as I calmed down.

‘I am baby sitting actually.’

‘Ooh! That sounds fun! Can we come?’

‘Sure,’ I chuckled, ‘wait… we?’

‘Yes! Okay boys, you want to come help Marie baby-sit?’ he shouted away from the phone.

‘Hello Marie!’ the others cried out.

‘Oh… hey,’ I said, ‘Did you have me on loudspeaker?’

‘Yeah, why? What were going to say?’ said Louis in a mysterious tone.
