It was my third week of third grade. I was at a new school and I had no friends. Not even one. I didn't want friends, but it would have been nice to have someone to talk to.
Everyone wanted to be friends with the redhead though. I didn't know her name and I didn't care. I was jealous that everyone talked to her. She was always talking to someone.
That day I had tried to open my water, but I couldn't get it open. I had little hands and I couldn't grip the cap of my water bottle.
"Having a hard time with that?" I heard a voice say. I looked up and saw the redhead sitting next to me.
"No." I said and went back to trying to open the water bottle.
"You're very determined, I like that." She said.
I pretended to ignore her.
"I'm Chloe, by the way." She said.
"I'm Beca." I said.
"That's a cool name. Is it short for Rebeca?" She said.
"No, just Beca." I said.
"That's really cool. My sister's name is Rebecca." She said.
"Nice." I said and continued to struggle with the water bottle.
"You sure you don't need help with that?" She asked.
"I got it." I said.
"No you don't, let me see that." She said and took it out of my hands. She opened it within seconds.
"That's only because I loosened it for you." I said.
"Okay." She said sarcastically.
Since that day, Chloe and I have been best friends.
