Here's the deal I have with Lukercy: I ship Lukercy, but as a concept, and not in the context of the book. I ship it in more like an Alternate Universe. Because let's be real, besides slight physical attraction, Percy has never really liked Luke; once he found out about Luke's true intentions he hated and was jealous of him. There's no canon context that supports this couple, at all. But damn, the concept is rich.

I ship Lukercy the same way I ship Galeniss; like how I ship Galeniss in a world where there were no Hunger Games or where Katniss never loved Peeta, I ship Lukercy in a world where Percy and Luke did grow to love each other. If there is anything the movie did right is that it gave Luke and Percy a sense of camraderie before Luke was revealed to be evil. Unlike in the book, where Percy and Luke were strangers turned enemies, in the movie they were friends turned enemies, which gives a bigger connection to them. (I am not trying to defend the movies, by the way. The movies were awful and lame). I really wish it had been like this in the books.

And if they had been in love? God, what a punch to the heart would that be. Percy and Luke loving in secret, Percy having the hardest time fighting the guy he loves and vice versa, complete dilemma from Percy's part (which gets stronger as he starts to doubt the Gods), sometimes Percy screwing over a mission to keep Luke safe, but also knowing that he's clearly messed up. There is SO MUCH going for Lukercy...as a concept.

In the books there really is nothing to the ship. Like I said, they were strangers turned enemies. There is zero subtext when it comes to them. So can I say I ship Lukercy? Yeah, I can say that. I just ship it in a very particular, specific way.
