"Okay, but everyone is trying to kill you," I reminded Kai.

"Yeah, yeah," he muttered, without a fuck to give.

"Were you listening to me?!" I snapped.

"You have a better idea?" He snapped back.

"Don't look at me! I was on team don't kill Nakamura!"

"Before you distort your facts, get them straight. You said 'we need to murder the asshole and get Arianna back'. Verbatim."

"I didn't specify which asshole!"

"You didn't strike me as the self-sacrificing type."

"I'm not! Now come up with a better plan!"

"Why don't you try to dive through the sluice gates? Ryo and I will walk out through the back exit."

"Maybe I will!"

"Say hi to the two corpses I dumped on your way downhill, will you?"

"You're not sure they're dead! They might be alive and looking for you!"

"The water turned red a few meters down. Do you think one of them was carrying ketchup and an oxygen tank?!"

"Your plan to avoid Nakamura's men is to walk out right in front of them!"

"Yes. So?"

"Kai! If you haven't noticed everyone is trying to kill you!"

"Which is exactly why we need to get the fuck out!"

"So by your logic, you're trying to escape the people who want to kill you by getting yourself killed? Are you stupid?"

"Do you always talk without thinking?! I'll use small words. There. Is. No. Other. Way."

"Do you always act without thinking?! This. Is. A. Bad. Idea."

"Of course, you would know about planning. Considering you've done so much of it so far."

"Maybe if I had, we wouldn't have been in this mess!"

"No, we would have been dead!"

"Same end result, mister."

"How the fuck was I supposed to know the Circle knew I'm here?!"

"See? Bad planning!"

"You're impossible!"

"You're incorrigible!"

"Even after I saved your ass a few hundred times?"

"You only came for me today because I knew your name and you didn't want the two sonofabitches to extort it!"

"Still came for you. Could have killed you," Kai said. "Wasted opportunity."

"Wasted opportunity?!"

"Do you have a better plan for getting out? Yes or no question."

"I...uh...no?"

"End of discussion."

"You two done?" Ryo yawned.

We two pinned him with an ice cold glare that could freeze rock.

"Oh, okay, nevermind. Continue, I'm going to find a way out," he said.

Kai ignored him. He walked past me after shoving me out of the way like a true gentleman.

"Watch it!" I snapped as I stumbled to the side and fell on a crate.
