Her Muteness

 ©2011, Olan L. Smith

---

Deep beneath the earth I discover my essence

Seated in a chamber; carpeted blood-red.

I meditate to ascend to my eternal abode.

I levitate, but a swift tug pulls me downward; I bow in acquiescence.

---

I twist my head to see who dares to hinder me.

I perceive a seraph with dark hair

And superior features.

Who is she?  Perhaps my guide or a banshee,

---

Maybe she is an alien or a siren to lure me.

I extend my arm to fondle her loveliness

And I shift her head closer

Hoping I could kiss such an esprit.

---

To embrace her flame

To feel her smooth skin as our lips touch;

She reacts in kind.

Anxiously I ask her name;

---

She answers in muteness;

I am elated by her presence

And erupt with merriment

My body cannot control its joyfulness.

---

Like a perfect note sustained

I feel vibrations ascend my spine reaching my crown.

Startled by my response she counters

Not with words, rather; she moved like a bird; her neck craned

---

And she raised her shoulders in astonishment.

Again― I ask her name;

She replies with silence.

I edge nearer, an accomplishment.

---

Caressing her long hair we tread

Another realm where lips interlock and tongues intertwine,

Then she vanishes and my eyes open;

I am desirous to return to my secretive fortress of blood-red.
