t w e n t y ✺ changing things up

Chris

I found myself driving back to my house awfully quickly.

The woman-Emerson-had a point. I still had feelings for Rease. And there was no denying it either.

As soon as I pulled in, I spotted another car.

I wondered if it was one of Rease's co-workers, schoolmates, or someone else.

That something else being Taylor.

Yawning, I get out of the car and go inside. The spot on the couch where Rease was occupied about a hour ago was now empty, and -

What the hell?

I heard bumping in the kitchen area.

I walk over there to see Rease and Taylor sucking face on the counter. Not to mention both were missing shirts.

"Excuse me?"

Rease jumped, and Taylor backed off.

"Chris!" Rease pulled her shirt back on. "You're early..."

"Yeah, I am." I slam my keys on the counter. "Now I have to Lysol this whole counter, gross."

"Damn, Arch, what's your problem?" Taylor smirked.

"This!" I yell. "This is a problem!"

"Why?" Rease raised an eyebrow.

"Because, I-"

"No, no, no." Taylor laughed. "We all know, Arch-and she will never be yours."

"Shut your mouth-"

"Who said I'd stay silent?" Taylor walked up to me, venom laced in every word he said. "You're worthless, dude. Get over it."

I now come face to face with him. "Call me worthless again."

"You are. You are a worthless, talentless little fuck."

All the sudden, I found myself getting mad.

I punched Taylor.

We begin to roll with the punches both of us were delivering.

"Guys, stop!" Rease tried to pull me off of Taylor.

Taylor abruptly pushes back, sending Rease sprawling to the ground.

The girl, shocked by the sudden movement, began to cry.

"STOP! PLEASE! THIS ISN'T WORTH IT!"

We stop, staring at her.

She lightly stood up, and ruffled some dust off.

"Chris?" Rease said softly.

"Rease, I'm so sorry."

"No." She wiped the tears off her face.  "I, I can't."

"You can't?" I whisper. "Can't what?"

"This." She sighed. "You can't be acting like an asshole to my boyfriend."

"What the hell?" I point to him. "It's him! You gotta understand!"

"I wish I did." Rease shrugged. "But I don't. So maybe it'd be best if I left."

"Rease, where would you go?"

"Taylor's, of course." She grabbed a Yeti thermos that resided on the counter, filling it up with ice.

"Rease, please-"

"Just don't." She grabbed the cup and began to head for her room.

Taylor smiled. "You see, Arch? She chose me over you."

I shake my head in aggression. "Go fuck yourself."

°°°

Thirty minutes later, after throwing bags of clothes down, Rease said her goodbyes to me, and she left with Taylor.

I found myself looking at the time.

10:01 P.M.

Over the last two hours, I had found some way to screw shit up. It went from something good to something bad.

And it was all my fault.

And for the first time in a long time, I cried. And cried.

Damn, what a screw-up I was.
