Spencer sat on the soft, grey couch in Toby's empty apartment. She stared at the ticking clock on the mantlepiece intently. She felt like the clock was mocking her: it's ticking was the only sound that Spencer's ears could detect. It annoyed her... all this waiting around. She was desperate to see him! She needed to see him! The three weeks he was away for, dragged on. He was like a part of a jigsaw puzzle that was lost. She was trying to piece together the puzzle but she couldn't find his piece. She just knew that it was him. He made her complete and without him... she was nothing.

She sat in a world of her own until she heard the lock of the door rattling. She jumped out of the couch like it was on fire and watched the door open slowly...slowly...slowly...

"CALEB!" She screamed.

"Oh hey Spence," Caleb closed the door and set the keys on the small China plate beside the door.

"What are you doing here?" She asked confused.

"I was called here by your significant other, to... water plants," his voice rose, his eyes not making contact with Spencer's.

"He doesn't own any plants!" Spencer said and he sighed in response.

"Ok fine," he took a deep breath in, "he sent me here to see how you were... holding up."

"Why?"

"Because he knows how much you miss him... and you know how much he misses you," Caleb explained.

"That's true!" Spencer said while taking a seat on the couch again. She felt a wave of anxiety wash over her and she jumped slightly. Caleb observed Spencer's jitterness, wide eyes, makeup-less face, paleness.

"Have you been sleeping?" Caleb asked taking an anxious step towards her.

"No."

"Have you eaten?"

"Not since yesterday." Spencer buried her face in her hands.

"Hey," Caleb sat down on the couch and put a hand on her shoulder.

"I'm just worried about him...Caleb." She sobbed into her hands while Caleb rubbed her back reassuringly.

"Hey... he's going to be fine! He's a strong man Spence. He- both of you- will get through this... together." Caleb's voice was soothing and calming. Spencer conjured up a small smile.

"You should've been a councillor you know that." She laughed slightly and wiped her tears away with her pointing finger.

Caleb laughter filled the silent room and Spencer smiled at him.

"What happened?" Caleb's face turned serious again as he asked Spencer the question that had been stuck in his head since Toby left.

"His best friend from the force was shot... in the stomach... three times," Spencer's voice wobbled slightly. "The look on his face when he found out... it was like every bad thing in his life just combined and... punched him in the face! God, why does every good person in this world have to suffer!" Spencer's voice rose in anger but with emotion too. She was emotionally stressed. This was overwhelming for her and she didn't know what to do. Who could help her right now? Who could advise her? Who could talk to her like a best friend but still mean more to her than one?

She turned to look at Caleb. Their eyes locked onto each other's but there wasn't a romantic look. It was a look of comfort, of overwhelm, of friendship. It was in that moment that she realized she had answered all the questions that had been cirling her mind. Caleb could help her, advise her, comfort her, reassure her! And he was right here, with her right now!

"Will you stay with me?" She asked her voice shaking and full of emotion.

"Of course." Caleb smiled at her and then embraced her in a hug. There was no spark... just the overwhelming sense of comfort...

Hi guys so this is my first one shot and I have to say that it turned out pretty well! I know that most of you hate Spaleb but honestly they have a great friendship! Caleb is always there for her and Spencer is always there for him. This was going to be a Spoby story but I'm going to make another one for them and just them. Haleb or Ezria next? Comment your opinion and preference for the next one! Thanx guys!
