76 // the greatest form of happiness

If there's anything
I were to share to
the ears on the planet,
It would be how
I found that
the greatest form of happiness
is not hidden within
working lungs and parted lips,
not behind crumbling towers
containing crestfallen lovers with
wishful dreams,
but within the simplistic
necessities of life.
There's days when the clouds darken
without the glistening
dribbles of ocean and the night falls into a wretched silence
and all you feel prancing in your
little mind is everything
you wanted to paralyze.
But then the sun blooms.
And the morning is cold,
but your hair gets caught in the wind,
twirling like the ballerina you
practiced to be when you were six
and you can't help but
remember your childhood;
how your tiny fingers found strength
between your father's calluses
and together you could
conquer the world,
even if it was
only in your imaginations.
Your parents didn't have much,
but their loving warmth was enough.
The flowers held flashbacks
and the trees sung echoes,
and no, I didn't have his touch
and I couldn't buy gold strings
but I had the universe.
That's all I'll ever need.
