Opening My Eyes

I slept in Meredith's that night. She knew it wouldn't have been a good idea to let me go home with the ideas that I had in my head. I woke up the next morning and realized that tequila really was not my friend. My head pounded and the room spun around me. It was my day off today but I took it as an opportunity to speak to Dr Webber and hand in my transfer request to Stanford University Hospital. Also I needed to pack my things and say my goodbyes. No matter how drunk I was last night, I meant every word that I said to Meredith and my decision to leave was final.

"Good morning sunshine" Derek joked as I walked into the kitchen

"Morning Dr Shepherd" I mumbled as I winced against the sun light

"Call me Derek" he smiled "Do you want some breakfast? I've got some eggs on?" he asked sweetly

"No thanks Derek. I've gotta get home for a bit, can you tell Meredith I'll call her later?" I asked in my best manner

"Of course. See you later" he laughed as he saw the pain in my face

"Thanks" I nodded and struggled to smile as I made my way to the front door of the house and called a cab

I got home a little while later and noticed Arizona hadn't come home from the night shift yet. She had been working a lot lately and I barely got time to speak to her. I showered and put on some fresh clothes. This whole leaving thing, its something I thought about before. When I found out about Alex and Jo I couldn't stick working near him and so I applied for a transfer to Stanford and they accepted but things started to get better in the hospital and I chickened out of the move but I still had my letter and I had some friends there who could help me out. I knew this was for the best. I couldn't stick around here. It would never work. I left the house after grabbing some breakfast and made my way to the hospital.

"Hey Nancy. Is Dr Webber around?" I asked the nurse at the desk

"He's in his office Dr Quinn, do you want me to page him?" she asked kindly

"Can you just let him know I'm on my way up?" I smiled

"Of course Doctor" she nodded as she picked up the phone

"Thanks Nancy" I said as I turned to leave and take the elevator

"What do you mean you're leaving the program? Quinn you're one of our most promising surgeons and we have one of the top teaching programs in the country!" Webber raised his voice as he stood up from his chair holding my letter in his hand

"It's a personal matter sir. I feel like I can't be at the top of my game, I'm less focused than I used to be." I said determined

"Is this because of Karev? Because if it is Quinn, I swear I'll talk to him again!" He inquired

"No, it's not. I never see Alex anymore. Honestly sir it's best I don't tell you but I do hope you accept my offer and wish me well" I said

Richard took a seat once more and let out a sigh of frustration.

"Fine Dr Quinn. I'll ring Stanford tomorrow and see what I can do ok! But please think hard about this and if you change your mind by 3pm tomorrow talk to me immediately!" he pressed

"Yes sir. Thank you sir" I nodded gratefully as I stood up and left his office

I left the hospital then and drove back home to begin some of my packing. I went into my bedroom and took out the bags I had used to move my stuff here from Alex's apartment. I started taking my clothes from the wardrobe and placing them into a bag. I took out a brown cardboard box and started placing books and other things for work in there. I heard the front door open. I knew it was only Arizona so I paid no attention. I finished placing some things into the box and left the room. This was starting to stress me out and I couldn't face Arizona right now, I couldn't tell her I was leaving.
