Korean Translation Guide - English to Korean

(I'll  occasionally be using romanized Korean words and lyrics since some things sound awkward when translated over in English. This mini guide is to help you all understand some of the words and phrases you may come across. Use it as a reference if you must. Please note that I am not Korean, so I'm extremely sorry if any of this is incorrect. These are just a few words and phrases I may use here and there.)

Hello >>> Annyeonghasaeyo (respectful/formal –also means good morning), Annyeong (casual/informal), Yobosaeyo (on the phone)

Goodbye >>> Annyeonghikasaeyo (when someone is leaving you), Annyeonghikesaeyo (when you leave someone), Annyeong (same as hello but still informal)

Thank you >>> Kamsahamnida (respectful/very formal), Gomawo (casual/used for very close friends, younger people, siblings etc.)

Girls referring to older guys OR older brother >>> Oppa

Girls referring to older girls >>> Unnie

Guys referring to older guys >>> Hyung

Guys referring to older girls OR older sister>>> Noona

Older guy/girl calls someone younger than them >>> Dongsaeng (or just their name)

Senior/someone who has more experience in something >>> Sunbae or Sunbaenim (formal)

Mom >>> Umma or Eomeoni (used when you are an adult and/or if you are talking about someone's mother in conversation)

Dad >>> Appa or Abeoji (used when you are an adult and/or if you are talking about someone's father in conversation)

Younger Sister >>> Yeo Dongsaeng

Younger Brother >>> Nam Dongsaeng 

Grandmother >>> Halmoni (can also be used when addressing an elderly women)

Grandfather >>> Haraboji

Middle aged women/ older married women or looks old enough to get married >>> Ahjumma 

Same as Ahjumma only with middle aged men >>> Ahjusshi

Fool, Stupid, Silly >>> Babo/Pabo

Yes >>> Ne or Yeh (formal?/polite)

No >>> Aniyo (formal/polite), Ani (casual?/used for younger people)

I love you >>> Saranghae

Honey >>> Jagiya - Yeobo (but used with married couples)

Hey! >>> Yah!

Alright >>> Arasso

The act of showing cuteness or trying to look cute >>> Aegyo

The best >>> Daebak

Why? >>> Waeyo? (formal/polite) Wae? (informal)
