Shadows

I am a woman living in a man's shadow.

Blocked by the disparity of society.

I am also hidden by the darkness of my skin.

The sun rises, the sun sets.

Day after day, I am left as a shadow.

I am judged by the size of my breasts.

Defined by the structures of my body.

Why not judge me by the contents of my character?

Would that be too much to ask?

Still being pushed further into his shadow!

First it was racism, next came sexism.

Now they've created an ageism.

Let's not forget about feminism.

Is there a "stop putting me in his shadowism"?

Why must we be labeled?

Slut, whore, hoe, thot, bitch (such horrific names).

Why must we end up paying the price?

Takes two to have a child right?

Behind all this, still hidden in his shadows.

"She was wearing a revealing dress."

"She was winking at me."

"She told me to hit her up."

Don't use our gender as an excuse for your mistakes.

There is a rope continuously pulling me towards his shadow!

We will never receive fair pay!

We will never get equal rights!

We will never stop being underestimated!

We will never stop being labeled!

We will never ever be able to leave his shadow!
