Introduction

Everything was changing. The snow was drying, my nightmares were going away. Mom seemed happier... it made me wonder... What's going on?

One thing you should know about me, I have been on the run from my father ever since I can remember. We've been all around the world trying to escape his rath, but not once have we been to America- my mother says that in America is where they met, and she wouldn't dare step back there.

Antartica is where we live now. Antartica has been home to me for the last few decades. I went to school, graduated, became a cheerleader. I became someone who I'm not, just to fit in. And it's worked. We haven't had a run in with him in a long time.

I've begun to wonder if he's dead.

Every few years, it seemed that I have a new identity. I never got to use my last name: Jackson. Nor did I get to use my birth name: Leah. The next time he finds us, I get to choose my next name. Right now, it's Hailey. Right now, I'm blonde. Right now, my eyes are green.

Everything about me had to change depending on where I was. I had to fit in, I had to speak the language, I had to be someone that he would never see.

"Hailey, darling-" My mother was a businesswoman here, and was constantly on the phone. Her dyed red hair was tied in a tight bun on the top of her head, and her fake glasses were at the bridge of her nose. "I've been thinking, and talking to some old friends... I think it's time to move."

"What?" I glanced at her, looking away from the book that I had been skimming through. "Is something wrong? Has he found us?"

"Sweetie," she sat down in front of me, instead of answering my question. "We're waiting around here, waiting for him to find us. We need a head start this time. Maybe... Maybe California?"

California... where is California? I know this... I learned- it's in America!

I sat up from the sofa where I was comfortably sitting, my eyes widening at her. "California? As in America? Are you serious?"

She nodded her head, smiling at me as she pats my hand with her cold one.

In being a Vampire, my mother's skin had always been ice cold. For some reason though, mine wasn't. My mother was one of the oldest vampires that still walked this earth, and me- I was second in line. My anatomy didn't make sense, though. I was born a Vampire- which I've learned is extremely rare. Most Vampires weren't able to have children seen as how we're dead. But, since my mother was cursed with being a Vampire instead of being killed by one and turned, things seemed to work a little differently for us.

No one thought that it could be possible to have a child as a Vampire, but that's why it was a secret. My father though, he didn't want to keep that secret. That's why he was after me.

"Isn't it really sunny there though?" I asked, a little worried. When I was born my mother had a witch engrave an enchantment into my hip- something with power that lets me walk the earth in the sunlight without being turned to dust. I was grateful for that, but I haven't been in the sun since I was younger, and I have no idea what California would be like.

I like to pretend that my engravement is a tattoo, but she hate's when I call it that.

"Yes," she nodded her head. "That's why you have to take things slowly. Your engravement will protect you. I promise. I got the most trustworthy witch to put the enchantment on it, and it hasn't failed us yet. Though, at this time of year we shouldn't have to worry too much."

I nodded my head at her, swallowing as I process all of this. It'd been so long since we actually moved. We'd been moving around Antartica for the last 20 years, seen as how it's so easy to disappear out here. And with the beautiful view of the aurora borealis, I really didn't want to go.

But maybe this will be a good thing. Maybe it's time to put this Hailey charade to rest. I didn't really even like being Hailey, I didn't have any friends out here due to the fact that I chose not to go back to Highschool this time, and with the way Antartica was set up we didn't really live close to anyone.

That was most likely by my mother's choice- but the fact still remains.

"So, you're okay with this? We would be leaving first thing in the morning... is that okay with you?" She asked, a little worried but excitement was clear in her eyes.

"Yes mom, I'm fine with this." I decided, nodding my head at her once again. She grinned widely at me, nodding her head as she stood back to her feet, pulling her phone back out of her dress pocket. "Well, do you have a name in mind?"

I'm really going to miss Antartica, I loved the snow and the cold weather.

Maybe... Maybe Snow isn't such a bad name?

"Snow," I told her. "Snow I want that to be my new name."

She raised her eyebrow at me, "Snow?" She repeated. "Okay, sure. Pick a new color to do your hair and eyebrows, take out your contacts... you know the deal." She smiled and I nodded my head.

Snow Jackson. I like it.
