Chapter 2
His eyes were black and disinterested as he diverted his attention to his lavish phone. What was his problem? I sat down on the lumpy black chair and began introducing myself.
"Hey I'm Thea and you?" I asked, shaking the hand of the boy next to him.
"Tyler, nice to meet you! Judging by the lack of screaming I'm guessing you've never heard of us?" He spoke, his glasses crooked as he rubbed his chin and raised an eyebrow.
"No, sorry." Embarrassed, I looked away. Why didn't I just say yes? Why am I even here? To help out your friend, of course. Mentally, I face palmed. In that moment I could hear a hard laugh emerging from the boy next to Tyler.
Looking over to him confusingly, I questioned, "What's so funny?"
His mouth twitched as if he was trying to suppress a thought. Bitterly looking up at me he started.
"I don't know, maybe it's the interviewer who turns up late to an interview and hasn't even tried to learn about who she is interviewing." The boy next to Tyler scolded.
"And you are?" I questioned.
"Josh." He answered emotionlessly, glaring coldly into my eyes. I adverted my eyes back to Tyler who was awkwardly sitting between us. Josh was still glaring annoyingly at me. Well isn't he wonderful.
"Sorry that he's like this, it's just that we haven't slept in quite a while and our bus broke down yesterday. You've done nothing wrong." Tyler whispered into my ear, smiling softly, I smiled back.
Suddenly, the glass window behind me started banging, I turned around and Joe was waving frantically. He pointed dramatically at my question sheet as he began to count down from 3. The recording sign turned on. Wait. We're live, sh!t.
As quickly as possible I turned back to Josh and Tyler before starting the interview, "Hey! This is Thea from Scuff Radio, today we have Twenty One Pilots in the studio, please introduce yourselves guys!" I started, my voice encouraging them to speak. Tyler smiled ferociously and started to introduce himself.
"Hi, I'm Tyler." He spoke, his voice sounding low but high.
"Hi, I'm Josh." Josh said, imitated Tyler.
Glancing at my question sheet, I continued, "So how did you two meet?" I watched as Tyler smirked and approached the microphone slowly, leaning in. For a moment both Tyler and Josh shared a knowing look.
"It's a funny story actually. One day I was walking by a public pool, when I saw that there was someone drowning. Now all the lifeguards were on lunch break, so I didn't want to disturb them because a lifeguard gotta eat."
"True." Josh inputted, admiring Tyler.
"So obviously I brought this guy out of the pool. When I did, I saw it was Josh." Tyler looked at Josh hysterically before shouted "Josh" with his hands. Josh slapped him away laughing. "So I did the logical thing and as soon as he could breathe again, I told him 'We should start a band!' and he looked at me with these red eyes (because of the chlorine in the water) like, 'yeah'. Since then we've been making songs and most of them have been about that day." I and Josh let out a laugh at Tyler's obviously ridiculous story. We both looked at each other comically. At least he can laugh.
We continued from that point, me reading out questions and Tyler answering them with brilliant jokes. At the end, we said "Bye!" and the recording sign switched off (thereby making me feel super relieved because I was sweating like a pig and about to fall asleep). Josh and Tyler both bounced up from their seats. Joe came out from behind the glass panel and thanked Josh and Tyler, shaking their hands ferociously.
"Thank you for coming here today dudes, you were both awesome!" Joe complimented, bringing in both Josh and Tyler for a hug. Wow Joe, way to make me feel like the third wheel. I stood timidly from behind the table as they continued talking.
"No thank you!" Tyler said.
"You should come to the show tonight, we'll put you on the guest list." Josh suggested in low voice. He looked back at me, glaring a bit while waiting for Joe's answer. Does he still have a grudge for me being late?
"Yeah sure!" Joe answered back. He must feel ecstatic.
"Okay dude see you then!" Josh boomed, before walking back out the room. He slowed down before coming towards me.
I took a shy step back feeling slightly intimidated, causing me to abruptly hit the wall. Leaning in with his calloused hand up against the wall, he looked down at me smirking.
"Come to our show tonight." He commanded, before finally leaving. I could feel my cheeks blush a bit.
No way am I going.
