Nothing's Ever Easy ~Chapter 16

Start from the beginning

“Adrian, what’s going on?” I heard Travis say behind me. “Who- Landon?”

“I’m calling the police.” I said suddenly.

“And say what? That I raped Evelyn and yet attempted to rescue her?” Landon scoffed. “I’m sure that will bid extremely well with the police.”

“We caught you just in time. Stop denying it.”

“I’m not denying anything. Hell, I haven’t admitted to doing anything either. So who’s the real loser here?”

“Landon, you’re picking a fight.” Travis said urging him to keep quiet.

“Adrian?” Evelyn rasped out.

“I’m here. Just stay still, I’m calling the police.” I said pushing her hair out of her face.

“No. He didn’t do anything wrong.” I furrowed my brows at her.

“What do you mean?” Travis came closer so that he could hear her better.

“Landon…he-he didn’t do it.” she shook her head.

“What the hell do you mean?” I looked over at Landon to see him smirking at me. “Did he tell you to say that?”

“No. It was Wyatt.” I thought for a moment. Evelyn did say that her attacker had blue eyes and his voice was familiar.

“Are you sure?” she nodded. She raised her hand and pointed to the ground. “Travis, go check that out.”

“Oh my god. It’s Wyatt.” Landon helped pick Wyatt up off the ground. He was still out cold for the moment.

“Fuck you, Landon!” I yelled. “How could you do that? You put us all through hell and you couldn’t even tell us that it wasn’t you?”

“I never said that it was.” He replied.

“You never said that it wasn’t either.” Travis retorted.

“Travis-” Landon reached out to Travis.

“Don’t touch me. After what you did, I can’t even look at you. You made me think-” Travis trailed off. “Forget it. I’m done.”

“I think it’s about time that we call the police.” I interjected.

“I already did. They should be here soon.” I nodded.

“Right, you can give your statement then we don’t want to see you again. Stay away from us. All of us.” I said looked from him to Travis.

Sirens wailing in the distance alerted us that the police had arrived. The three of us kept our distance between Landon and Wyatt. We had enough trouble in the past few months that could last us a lifetime. We certainly weren’t welcoming any more.

“One second!” I yelled as the person on the other side of the door knocked for the third time in a row. I tripped over my feet just before I got to the door. “Dammit.”

I pulled the door open to reveal Landon standing on the other side. “I was hoping that you’d be home.”

“There’s not many places I could go to.” I shrugged. “What do you want?”

“I wanted to talk to you. May I come in?” he stepped forward but I moved in front of keep, halting his movement.

“Whatever you want to say, you can say it out there. I’d prefer it if you didn’t come into my home.” I folded my arms across my chest.
