This is a trope that consist on having an insignificant or obscure character, detail or thing coming out of nowhere saves the main character from being killed or defeated.
This is used a lot in Sailor Moon season 1 with Tuxedo Kamen/Mamoru Chiba. Everytime Usagi/Sailor Moon has to die by the youma's hands, Tuxedo Kamen comes in and saves her by throwing his rose at the monster.
How to Improve
-Just use it if the scene requires it. And if possible, just use it to distract the villain.
-Make it realistic.
