Life Will Always Find A Way

Watching the opening ceremony
Of the Olympic Games in Brazil
It was announced that
11,000 trees would be planted in honor
Of the athletes that have come

That way someday perhaps
They can come back to Rio
With their families and show them
That they had part in growing
The future

That is a powerful message
In a world dominated by hate,
Judgment, and adversity
Where you can die
For being different

Then I thought of something
Simple, not major like
The planting of a tree
I thought of my driveway
At home

The cracks in the pavement
How weeds were growing there
And it made me realize
Life will always find a way

An abandoned ghost town
In a nuclear zone
Doesn't have humans
But nature is taking it back

The animals have found a way
To change their DNA
So they could live and prosper
In the hostile environment

Just like the dinosaurs in the movie
Jurassic Park
That changed sex in order to breed
Life will always find a way

What humans take and change
Disrupt and break
May not return the way it was
But those that were on this
Planet before us
Will take it back

There is a tree in Israel
Somewhere planted in my name
To honor me
After my Bat Mitzvah

Perhaps if we all took the time
To give back to nature
We would also find our own way
In this misshapen
Heartbroken world

After all, we too are a part
Of life
