"No!"

"Yes."

"No!"

"Yes. Now stop arguing."

I was currently arguing in the kitchen with my mother, Tracy. I couldn't believe she was trying to force me to leave my beautiful home in New York City to spend the summer in some small town in the San Fernando Valley. Where even was that?! That just wasn't going to happen. Not acceptable. My friends and I had already made too many plans and planned too many trips for me to just leave.

"How can I stop arguing? I'm not going to let you just pick my life up and move me to the middle of nowhere!" I continued arguing, now on the verge of tears.

"I think this is for the best. You need a change of scenery' a chance to make... new friends," My mother replied calmly.

"Why would I need new friends? I have enough already," I folded my arms.

If she thought I was going to give in then she was dead wrong.

"Yes, dear, and those friends of yours... well, I just don't think they are the best influence on you. You spend the day with them and then you come home with an awful attitude. Not to mention you were caught skipping school three times this month alone. Your father and I are sick of it and we think that sending you to your cousin's would be the best option. Scotty is a good kid and maybe he'll rub off on you," My mother explained in a soft tone.

It took a lot to rile my mother to raise her voice. Apparently, my protesting was't enough to warrant it.

I took a deep breath before I exhaled sharply, "No."

I stormed to my roo and slammed the door. She can't seriously expect me to move across the country to a new state for the summer and have to spend it with my nerdy cousin whom I have nothing in common with besides blood; and I'm even skeptical about that commonality.

There was no way I was going. No way in-

The hideous, yellow taxi pulled up in front of an even more ugly pink and white house. I sighed in frustration and put on my white and gold designer sunglasses. I glanced back towards the house that would serve as my temporary home for three months. Or prison, depending on how you look at it. The door opened and I immediately recognized the woman in a dated, floral dress running to the cab as my aunt. I noticed my cousin, Scotty, leaning against the door frame. I opened the door reluctantly and stepped out into the sunshine. As my aunt reached me, I was pulled into a bone crushing hug. I gasped and wheezed, tryiing to get oxygen into my lungs.

"Oh, Braelynn! I'm so glad you could come to our house for the summer! Look how much you've grown. The minute I saw you I thought it was your mother stepping out. It was like a flashback to when she was your age!" My aunt gushed.

I merely grunted, still struggling for air. When my aunt finally released me, I took a step back. She was smiling at me and looking up and down. I realized she was probably wanting me to say something too.

I managed a smile, "It's nice to see you again."

"Here's your bags. Since you've already paid, I'll just be on my way," the cab drivers rough, deep voice startled me.

I turned around and smiled at him, accepting my bags. Although I had a smile on my face, I tried to beg with my eyes for him to take me back to the airport ad not leave me these people who were practically strangers to me.

Apparently, he didn't get the memo. He tipped his hat, got back in his cab and abandoned me.

"Scotty! Come take Braelynn's bags!" My aunt called.

Scotty sprinted over and before I knew it, the bags were out of my hands.

I was about a full head taller than my cousin which wasn't much of a surprise since I was three years older than him.

"Thanks, Scotty," I murmured.

He looked exactly the same since the last time I saw him, except slightly taller. I sighed. It was a week into summer and the rest of it would be spent with my kid cousin. There had to be something fun to do around here.
