Tasha

"Paging Dr. Tasha Worthington- MRT," I heard over the intercom. My pager and cell were going off.

I woke up. Damn another dream. They were becoming more and more vivid. I had lived it once, I didn't want to go back. I got up from the cot in the on call room and stretched my shoulders. I turned off the pager and grabbed my phone.

I wiped my face and put on my white jacket. Being the head of the toxicology department, something must have been wrong with a medication. I had completed a residency in emergency medicine, a fellowship in toxicology and critical care and was one of the best in my field.

"Dr. Worthington, room 684, Ms. Peters is coding," Diana, one if the charge nurse's said as I headed in the direction of the code. I turned the corner in a light jog. When I got to the room, there were way too many people in the room.

"If you are not on the Code Blue Team I want you out of here," I said washing my hands and putting on my gloves. Sometimes people thought they were helping but all they were during was being in my way.

"I want a trac insert and a 500mg Diprivan drip. I want a 5mg constant and I want to know her RASS score. I want an ICU bed ready stat." I started chest compressions it was no way she was going to die on me. I continued until I heard the beep on the monitor increase.

"I want the vent set. Check ABG. Respiratory do your checks." I started a checklist within my first week on the job. I was anal when it came to my patient's safety.

I heard Chantel call out the checklist items. I heard check throughout the room. Once Mrs. Peters was sedated and stable, Tina and the team rolled her up to ICU.

"Where is Dr. Scott?" I asked Leslie one of my critical care nurses.

"He didn't show up. We paged him five times and called but he never showed."

"What do you mean he didn't show? He is the physician on call tonight. Mrs. Peters is his patient," I said pissed. I always check the patient census when my shift starts. I check ER, Surgery and ICU. I didn't like surprises and I like to be prepared.

"Last time I saw him he was in the physician lounge a little while ago," Margo the trauma team supervisor said handing me Mrs. Peters's orders to be signed.

I checked Mrs. Peter's chart to put the orders in. Shit! He had royally fucked up!

"Thank you," I said jogging to the lounge.

I was the new Intensive Care Unit Chief at University Hospital and the head of the Toxicology Department at Tulane, and I would not be taken advantage of. My role tonight had nothing to do with my Chief duties. The nurses called me because of my background in toxicology and critical care. I had been on call for eighteen hours straight. I was exhausted and Dr. Kaine Scott was about to feel my wrath.

I walked in and looked in the lounge. I didn't see him but I heard giggling coming from one of the dictation rooms.

I walked over to the small room to see Kaine getting a blow job from one of the ER Nurses. I scared the shit out of them when I took their picture with my phone. The image of his penis was not what I wanted to see. I would have nightmares for weeks, but now I had proof he was an unfit doctor and husband.

"I can't believe this, Kaine. Mrs. Peters is coding and you are in the lounge getting a fucking blow job. I can't believe you."

He jumped up making the nurse bump her head on the desk. He went to grab for my phone but I put it in between my breasts.

"Wait Tasha, I ..."

"No excuses Kaine. I am reporting you for patient abandonment, disruptive behavior and medication intervention. You screwed up! You gave her too much Coumadin, she coded and almost died, while you were getting a blow job."
