"What are you making?" There was something off about her voice, this sort of shy quality lightly surrounding her words that made Camila chuckle softly.
"Well the pasta's pretty much done but I was about to get started on the chicken."
"What do you need me to do?"
"I have everything set up so just...coat them in flour, dip them in the egg, then in the bread crumbs."
"That sounds too easy."
"Making chicken cutlets really isn't that hard, Lauren. A monkey could do it," she laughed, already anticipating the glare her roommate was giving her. She turned her head and sure enough her green eyes were narrowed which only made Camila laugh again.
"Don't sass me."
"Or what?" she challenged, with her back to her. She heard no response as she set a spoon in the sink. When she turned back to face her she was met with Lauren's hand smacking her on the forehead and immediately felt something cold and wet. She opened her eyes just as Lauren tossed the cracked egg shells onto the counter, smirking happily. "Lauren!"
"I said don't sass me." Instead of coming up with a response to the raven haired girl she grabbed an egg from the carton on the counter, cracking it over her head as well. Lauren's jaw dropped, surprised she would retaliate at all but, really, she should have seen it coming. "You're a little shit, you know that?"
"Yeah well...what can you do?" she shrugged and Lauren reached beside her, grabbing a handful of flour from the bowl. Camila's eyes widened just as she realized what she was doing. She tried ducking out of the way but Lauren grabbed her by the shirt and shoved the flour in her face, laughing hysterically at her roommate yelling for her to stop. With a hand still holding her she used her other to grab a handful of bread crumbs to throw at her as well. "You're such a jerk!"
"Look at you, my little chicken cutlet," she said with a smile, gesturing to her face and shirt covered in food. Camila tried to glare at her angrily but it only made Lauren burst out laughing again.
"I can't stand you."
"Yeah well...what can you do?" she repeated her words, mimicking her voice too obnoxiously, still smiling at her. Camila blew some flour and egg away from her mouth and quickly grabbed the flour to throw it back at her. She let out this high pitched scoff, wiping some of it away from her eyes and then they kind of just stood there, staring at each other. No one made a move or said a word for a moment or so before Lauren grabbed the eggs. In an instant the two roommates were throwing food at each other.
"Lauren!" she yelled through her laughter, grabbing the girl's arms to get her to stop and so she could catch her breath. Her shirt was covered in flour and eggs and bread crumbs as was her face and Lauren looked the same. Not being able to pull her arms out of her grasp she dipped her head down, burying her face into the crook of her neck and wiping the food onto her, causing the girl to shout. "Ew! Lauren, stop!"
"You started it!"
"I did not!" She pushed Lauren off of her and grabbed her around the waist just as she tried to reach for more eggs on the counter. "Enough!" She tightened her grip but Lauren slipped on the mess of eggs on the floor and they both fell hard, landing on top of each other. Camila tried to wiggle herself free but she was laughing too much to find the energy and Lauren managed to climb on top of her, her thighs on either side of her hips holding her down.
"You made a mess."
"You're the worst. Here I am trying to make food for us and this is the thanks I get."
"Hey, I'm helping."
"You are doing the exact opposite of helping!" she yelled, her laughter finally calming down a little bit. Lauren reached up to the counter and grabbed one of the pieces of raw chicken she was supposed to be preparing for the brunette and threw it at her chest. "Lauren!"
