"People." Her answer was short and simple, something Camila should have anticipated before she even asked, and she wished she would elaborate without forcing information out of the green eyed girl. And Lauren seemed to sense the internal debate she was having, and she took a potato chip and threw it at her like a child. "A girl from my philosophy class and a couple of her friends."
"Oh."
"I actually need to start getting ready," she said, straining to sit up right from where she was lying down. "Fuck, maybe I do need to exercise." She stretched once she was on her feet, grabbing the bottle from the table and bringing it to the kitchen with the chips to put away. "What are you gonna do all day?" she called out to the girl still sitting on the couch.
"I don't know," she said, lifting her legs up to cross them in front of her. She ran a hand through her hair, trying to focus on anything but a certain blonde that had unfortunately still been plaguing her mind no matter how hard she tried. She knew having Lauren around kept her distracted, with or without clothing. And she felt a little thwarted at the fact that she wasn't going to be there, even more so that she wanted her there at all. "I'll probably end up going anyway then I might just stay in tonight. I'm not really in the mood to be social."
"Alright," she shrugged, not really knowing what to make of her tone—not that she cared enough to decipher it, she'd argue. She watched her staring blankly at her own lap from the kitchen for a moment or so before snapping out of it and heading to their room to put pants on. She knew Camila was having a hard time post-breakup but emotional support and comfort was never her area of expertise. She was good with sarcastic comments and jokes and alcohol and sex to take her mind off of it or to at least get her to laugh but she felt it could only work for so long. And she knew firsthand that distractions only swept problems under the rug; out of sight, out of mind. But it didn't mean they were gone.
Lauren took her time getting ready, not hearing a word from Camila inside. When she came back out she was a little put off at seeing she hadn't moved from her spot, not even shifting her gaze the entire time. She was in the process of putting on lipstick when she finally broke her trance and looked up at the green eyed girl.
"You look nice," she said simply. Lauren looked down at herself before returning to Camila's gaze with a small smile, not expecting the compliment.
"Thanks." Camila stayed quiet, not wanting to dwell on where Lauren was going or who she was seeing or the fact that she was going to be alone. Lauren sensed something was off but she chose to ignore it, looking down at a text message on her phone before grabbing her bag. "I'll see you later, Camz," she told her as she headed out the door. Camila nodded and sighed once she was by herself.
"Great." She stared at her phone, knowing a one sided conversation between her and Allison was silently taunting her, waiting in her texts, and she felt her heart ache and tighten in her chest. She rubbed her eyes, not wanting to cry again even though her roommate was gone and she wouldn't have to deal with the awkwardness of Lauren not knowing what to do with her—or just not wanting to deal with her.
She forced herself to get up and get dressed for the day too, needing to clear her head, and figured going for a run or to yoga would probably be the best idea for her. She truly worried that if she stayed alone in the apartment any longer not doing anything she would most likely crack and end up calling her ex.
It was still relatively early in the night when Lauren made it back home. When she let herself in she was instantly greeted by the smell of something wonderful coming from the kitchen. It was some of the rare times she was openly grateful for having Camila as a roommate since she barely knew how to cook anything that didn't come from a bag or a box.
