"What? When did you live in your car?"
"In high school for a little bit," she said uncomfortably, folding her arms protectively over her chest. "Before I moved in with Dinah and her family."
"Wait, is that why you were so dead set on staying here?" she asked, and to Camila's surprise, not sounding sarcastic at all. It wasn't something she was completely used to with the other girl but she had her moments where she seemed to show genuine interest and care but Camila would never dwell too long on it, knowing how abrupt Lauren's moods could be. It was appreciated, for the moment, nonetheless.
"Well...yeah, I mean I told you I had nowhere else to go. You just didn't care."
"Well I'm a dick, we've established this. And since I'm not trying to make your life a living hell anymore-"
"You're not?" she asked, jokingly, earning a half-serious glare from the green eyed girl who lifted her leg up and hit her thigh with the heel of her foot. But she was just relieved she managed to distract Lauren from asking anymore questions that she really didn't feel like getting into any time soon.
"You make it so hard for me to actually admit that I kind of like you now so shut the fuck up."
"I knew it!"
"Shut up. God you're a loser," she said, despite the laugh threatening to crack through her hard demeanor she was trying to maintain. Camila was giving this ridiculous, stupid smile that got under Lauren's skin.
"And yet here you are...enjoying my company and casually fucking me so like, you're kind of contradicting yourself, Laur."
"You know what? I really hate you sometimes too, you bitch."
"I'll remember that next time we're-"
"Camz, I'm trying really hard not to strangle you here, so stop pushing your luck," she said and Camila stared at her with her lips parted, fighting a smirk, but she knew better than to start with her roommate.
"So I take it that it's a definite no to the yoga suggestion?" she asked, pushing some of her hair behind her ear and leaning the side of her head against the couch as she looked at her. Lauren sighed, looking down at the bag in her hand.
"When?" Camila was momentarily shocked, despite the reluctant undertones in her voice, at her compliance. But she fought a smile when she averted her green eyes to look at her still watching her.
"I was actually thinking of going today, if you want to come," she offered. Lauren felt an odd sense of complacency sitting there with her roommate, making plans to hang out as if they had been normal friends the whole time, which she hadn't felt in forever. It created an uneasy feeling in her stomach the more she looked at her with her arm resting on her legs still in her lap and her eyes staring at her—not expectantly, which is what surprised her the most—just waiting for any response.
"I can't today. I have plans," she told her, causing Camila's brows to furrow slightly. Of course, she couldn't force Lauren to do anything, let alone do anything with her. But knowing what Lauren normally liked to do in her spare time, especially when she wasn't near her, it worried her to say the least. She thought she had been doing a good job so far but she wasn't a prisoner to the apartment.
"You do?"
"Yeah, I'm going out in a bit actually. Maybe a rain check on the exercising, you know, like when I'm dead or something," she added with a sarcastic smile to annoy the brunette, just for the hell of it.
"Who are you going with?" she asked before she could stop herself. Surely, she had no reason to know every detail about Lauren's business or what she did when she wasn't with her. But taking on the unofficial task of helping to keep her clean she felt obligated to worry.
