CHAPTER 11: Chances

Monday... another day of tiredness.

This time, I decided to ask Gillian if she likes Shane. But where would I start? I want to ask her without noticing it.

"Hey, are you sick?" Gill asked.

We are in the school cafeteria, eating our lunch, thinking deeply.

"Are you okay? You haven't moved your food yet." She asked again.

"No-- I mean, Yes, I'm okay." My mind is really sick and tired of thinking a bigger way to help Shane. Why the hell can't he directly say it to her? What adds to this feeling is that I feel something for him. That's why my mind and my heart are objecting each other when it comes to helping Shane..

"You're absolutely not. Go on and finish your food and I will bring you to the school clinic."

"No need, Gill. I'm really okay." I sighed. 'Mentally, I'm not.'

"So you mean you're crazy?"

Wait, she heard it?

"You heard me?" I asked in state of shock.

"I've just cleaned my eardrums earlier this morning, so yes. I heard you."

"Oh, my God." I said and I rested my chin at my arm. And then my head continuously rested on my upper arm.

"Share it. My ears are ready." Then she clipped her hair at the back of her ear.

The thought suddenly popped out of my mind.

"No, Gill. It's nothing."

"No, Ana. It disturbs you. Come on. If you don't, I'll be mad at you."

Threats... My God! I'm really going crazy!

"I can't."

"Fine. But promise me you'll tell me when you're ready."

I nodded. Wait... I nodded. Which means... yes.

Fine. It's up to Shane. Well, goodluck for him.

But now, I'll do what Gail suggested.

"Gill, can I ask you one thing?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"What if someone wants to court you? Would you entertain them?"

"What kind of question is that?"

"Just answer me." I insisted. Say yes, Gill. Say yes!

"Of course, I won't."

"What? why?"

"Because I'm not yet at the legal age." She relaxedly said and took a sip of her juice.

"You won't allow anybody? Even though they just wanted to court you?"

"I really won't let them. I have a guiding principle. And that's one of those."

"What if your crush asked you out? Would you let him?"

"That's impossible, Ana. I don't even have a crush."

"What? Are you normal?"

"Hey, you're putting me in a hot seat. Why are you asking me those, by the way?"

"Nothing. I just want to know. But why don't you have a crush?"

"I don't know. Maybe too much focus on study is a reason why."
