| hello,
we haven't talked in quite some time |

on the ninth day, he comes back. he's there tapping on tyler's window in the middle of the night like he always does.

"hey," josh whispers as soon as he's inside.

"hi," tyler whispers back.

there's a silence, a thick blanket of quiet that settles heavily on tyler's shoulders.

"where were you?" he finally says.

"you didn't want me."

and it's true. he shouldn't blame josh for leaving him because he asked for this. he asked to be left alone. guilt floods him, all too familiar, a white-hot feeling that burns the tops of his ears.

"i was wrong," tyler admits, because he was. he always is.

a shy grin graces josh's features. "you were."

"like usual." tyler dares to smile back.

"like usual," josh repeats, agreeing.

there's another silence, one that isn't so heavy. it's weightless, comforting. it gives them space. it allows tyler time to realize how much he missed him. god, he missed him.

"what did you do while you were gone?" tyler asks, even though he already knows the answer.

"nothing," josh shrugs. "i didn't do anything."
